Nature, as we know, is capable of creating great surprises that, although known and explained by scientists, are rarely registered. These are the cases, for example, of totally circular rainbows or square waves!
O awesome.club has collected 18 images of unusual natural phenomena, and shares them all with you. Surprise yourself!
1. Clouds that create the effect of crashing waves
This phenomenon is known as Kelvin-Helmholtz instability. It is common in mountainous areas, where strong winds have different densities, forming these clouds.
2. Is it something from the Harry Potter universe?
The phenomenon of the black sun may seem frightening, but it is completely natural: it is just the migration of thousands of birds of black starlings, which can be seen in spring in Denmark.
3. When Mad Max becomes reality
4. You can play chess on the surface of this ocean
The phenomenon known as cross sea is not as mysterious as it seems. It usually occurs when waves from 2 different oceans meet, moving at angles that are close to 90 degrees apart. It is more common in the open sea than on the coast.
5. Everything Changed When the Fire Nation Attacked
In the picture above you can see a phenomenon known as shelf cloud🇧🇷 This cloud, which is low and horizontal, arc-like, is one of the main features of spring or summer storms in some regions.
6. Ice Flowers
These ice ribbons form on structures with gaps, such as dead plant stalks or metal fences, as water vapor is filtered and frozen.
7. Ants forming a question mark
8. Striped iceberg
Striped icebergs are more common than we think, especially in the Antarctic area. They are formed by layers of snow that react to various weather conditions. For example, the blue “fringes” pictured above formed when cracks in the ice filled with melt water that froze too quickly.
9. Xylaria polymorphaa mushroom also known as “dead man’s fingers”
It definitely lives up to its name. It is an extremely rare phenomenon!
10. Fire mill
Generally, fire mills, which are similar to a tornado, occur when extreme heat is combined with high winds, creating a turbulent flow of flames.
11. Rainbow in circles
These halos occur around the sun and are caused by ice crystals in the atmosphere, reflected by the sun’s rays. Sometimes halos appear around the moon, large stars and even planets!
12. Internal light
At dusk, the rays enter the cave illuminating the ice and leaving it quite similar to pieces of amber.
13. Snow rollers
Snow rollers are a phenomenon where the wind shapes the snow. Unlike normal snowballs, rollers are hollow inside, as they are formed by fragile and thin structures of inner layers, which are the first to form. These layers are easily destroyed by the wind.
14. The Wave (‘The Wave’), Arizona (USA)
This sand rock formation is one of the places in the world that makes us feel like we are on another planet. A wide variety of earth tones and strange, gravity-defying stone formations seem out of this world.
15. Rainbow Eucalyptus
Rainbow eucalyptus trees are easily found on islands in the Pacific, and their particular color is due to the outer layers that come off, giving way to inner layers of bright colors that start with brown and green tones. Afterwards, they darken and acquire tones that even seem artificial.
16. Mount Rainier volcano casting its shadow
This impressive phenomenon only occurs in winter, when the sun is further south. With that, the Mount Rainier volcano (the highest mountain in the State of Washington, in the USA, with more than 4 thousand meters of altitude) hides the rays of the sun in the morning.
17. A UFO? No, they are just lenticular clouds!
Generally, lenticular clouds arise in mountainous areas and disappear with relative speed. These unique clouds may appear to be stationary, but they actually retain a continuous flow of wind and moisture.
18. Confluence of the Rhône and Arve rivers in Geneva, Switzerland
There is a place in Switzerland where the Rhône and Arve rivers meet, creating an amazing natural phenomenon. The waters of these rivers are of totally different colors. When they unite, they form a single river, the Rhône.
This phenomenon can be seen here in Brazil at the impressive meeting of the waters of the Negro and Solimões rivers, in Manaus, forming the Amazon.
