18 Actress duos who gave life to the same character in very different ways

Over the years, some films have tried to reinvent themselves to win back audiences with a more modern version of an already known story that is in line with technological advances and trends. Some stories have already been told many times, but “remakes” (reshoots) exist precisely to show new versions. Interestingly, as much as time passes faster and faster, these productions show that some stories never go out of style.

O incredible.club decided to revisit the films that were remade a few years later to compare the different interpretations of their protagonists.

1. Lara Croft

Lara Croft is the protagonist of a series of video game which became even better known when it was brought to theaters in the beautiful interpretation of Angelina Jolie, in 2001. Her work was so good that she returned to play the same role a second time, in 2003. In 2018, Oscar winner Alicia Vikander was in charge of giving life to the character, and like Angelina, Alicia also received special training to be able to give more truth to the protagonist.

2. Sarah Connor

The case of the character Sarah Connor is very interesting because it is not about her different actresses, but about her. Linda Hamilton had already played the role and returned to the big screen in 2019, with Terminator: Dark Fate. For this, the actress had to prepare herself physically for a year. And an interesting fact is that in the 2019 film she herself was in charge of pronouncing the mythical phrase: “I will be back”.

Judith Hoag played April O’Neil in the movie The Ninja Turtles, from 1990. However, due to several disagreements related to the script and the demands of the production team, she decided not to do the sequels. The first version of the film was released in 1996 and had the wonderful Glenn Close as Cruella De Vil, one of the greatest villains in cinema history. A curious story is that the actress said that she would only play the part if only synthetic fur jackets and knits were used. The film Cruellaproduced by Glenn Close herself, will be released in 2021 and will feature an unrecognizable Emma Stone as the villain.

7. Carrie

Carrie is a 1976 thriller and horror film that tells the story of a young woman who decides to use her paranormal powers after suffering a lot at the hands of her colleagues. Academy Award-winning actress Sissy Spacek impersonated Carrie in the original film. In 2013, Chloë Grace Moretz played the protagonist in a very particular way. Her interpretation of it is not a retelling of what already existed and she said in an interview that she preferred not to see previous versions.

In the following years there were other attempts, and one of the last ones happened in the series Pomegranate, 2005, in which Lyndsey Marshal gave life to the famous queen. Some accessories from another 1963 film were used in the recordings.

Angels of the Night — Underworld is a 2003 film and was the first to tell the story of a vampire hunter named Selene who finds herself in the middle of a battle with lycans (werewolves). In 2016, Selene reappeared in the film Angels of the Night — Blood Wars, and the protagonist was played by the beautiful Kate Beckinsale. The 2016 film would be the last of the actress in the role, but in 2017 its creator confirmed that there is already a sixth film in development.

In recent years, the superheroine Wonder Woman has come back with everything. Gal Gadot was in charge of playing the character and on both occasions, in 2017 and in 2020, she was highly praised. However, the heroine first appeared on television in 1975, in the series Wonder Woman, which featured Lynda Carter in the lead role. In 1979 the actress received the CAPPY Award (1978-79) for all the stunts she performed in the series.

Princess Diana has been the subject of many films and series. In 2007 a documentary was made for television (Diana: The Last Days of a Princess) and Genevieve O’Reilly was in charge of interpreting her. A new version, spencer, will premiere soon and the one responsible for reviving the eternal princess is Kristen Stewart. The images that have been released reveal some impressive characterization. We can only wait for the premiere, scheduled for 2022.

In 1996, the story of a young and fun witch named Sabrina left an entire generation trapped in front of the television. In the plot, the witch, who lives with her aunts and a cat named Salem, was played by Melissa Joan Hart. The success of the series led to a film of the same name being released. However, in 2018 we were caught by surprise with a new version, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, a series that came down to us loaded with fantasy, drama and terror and stars young Kiernan Shipka.

The first film version of the story had its premiere in 1946. The French production in black and white was starred by Josette Day and is considered a great classic of cinema. There are other versions of the story, but the most recent one is from 2017 and had Emma Watson as the protagonist. The actress took a singing lesson to prepare for the role and claimed to have repeatedly watched the 1991 animated version for inspiration.
