It’s no secret that the world is full of an enchanting diversity of flavors for different tastes and palates. Much of this is reflected in the cuisine of each country, but apparently, there are also some pretty crazy drink creations, more properly, when we talk about soft drinks.
So, for a moment, try to forget the taste of the most common soft drinks, and open your mind to discover new tastes, because we, from awesome.club, we’ve rounded up 14 insane soda flavors from around the world. Come see. 🇧🇷
1. Unagi Nobori — Eel
Nothing could be more refreshing than an eel-flavored drink… or at least that’s how the Japanese think. The yellow colored Unagi Nobori carbonated drink contains extracts from the head and bones of the eel. Like Red Bull, in addition to refreshing, this drink promises to increase resistance, which makes it, technically, an energy drink. Would you dare to try it?
2. Lester’s Fixins — Fried Chicken
“There is no way to describe this flavor. But it’s strangely good”, described an internet user about the soda Buffalo Wing from the American brand Lester’s Fixins, which starts with an orange flavor and ends with that familiar spicy and acidic taste of buffalo wing. The same company also offers other weird flavors made into carbonated drinks, such as bacon, peanut butter and jelly, pumpkin pie, and sweet corn.
3. Grandpa Joe’s — Ketchup
Almost everyone likes ketchup, but did you know that there is a soda flavored with tomato sauce? Those responsible for producing the drink, branded Grandpa Joe’s, refer to it as “a serious craft soda with the unique flavor of ketchup.” However, the idea still turns some customers’ stomachs.
4. Melba’s Fixins — Birthday Cake
How can you not love a sugary, buttery, vanilla-flavored soda? This celebratory drink is from Colorado’s Melba’s Fixins, created to match the exact flavor of a birthday cake. We don’t know the taste, but we love the colorful and fun label.
5. LaObamas — Black Garlic
The LaObamas brand offers a new way to taste garlic. Based in Hong Kong but reportedly made in Switzerland, the soda is reputed to be refreshing and garlic-free. “LaObamas will become the special highlight of your meals”, so promises the brand.
6. Wonderfarm — Bird’s Nest
A funny curiosity is that this soda only came about because of a Chinese habit, swallow saliva soup. When building their nest, these birds expel a gelatinous saliva, creating a superglue that supports the sticks. By combining the saliva of these animals with white fungi, and other ingredients, we obtain this Wonderfarm wild drink, which is said to have a very sweet taste and a thick, viscous texture.
7. Dr. Brown’s — Celery
If you don’t like to eat greens, Dr. Brown offers a way to try and consume them by creating a celery-flavored drink. This refreshment has been in production since 1869, but even with its long history, it’s not exactly popular. It sounds strange, but it made us curious to try it.
8. Ramune — Curry
The range of unusual flavors of the Japanese soda brand Ramune, which translates into Portuguese as “lemonade”, includes everything from wasabi and kimchi to bubblegum and the Indian spice, curry. So if you like curry and love lemonade even more, Ramune curry tastes like lemon and lime, with a slight curry aftertaste.
9. Mr. Q. Cumber — Cucumber
This intriguing beverage, from the Florida-based Global Beverage Enterprises brand, is made with all-natural ingredients. Carbonated and not too sweet, it is known for being crunchy and refreshing, like biting into a cucumber.
10. Avery — Pumpkin Pie
When opened, this tempting Avery’s Beverages brand offers a strange but enchanting combination of flavors that include vanilla, clove, cinnamon, peach and caramel.
11. Dry Sparkling — Lavender
The founder of craft soda brand Dry Sparkling wanted to create high-quality non-alcoholic beverages that could be paired with food. Containing only carbonated water and natural flavorings, the lavender-flavored drink is low-calorie, translucent and comes in an elegant bottle.
12. Jones Soda — Turkey with Gravy
One of the strangest but most popular sodas was created by the Jones Soda company. We’re talking the Thanksgiving-themed drink that tastes like turkey and gravy, which was originally released in 2003 but has been out of the public eye for over a decade. In 2021, soda returned to American supermarket shelves, only in a limited way.
13. Fanta — Milk
Among the more exotic flavors launched by the brand, belonging to Coca-Cola, it is possible to mention Fanta Lactic, marketed in Hong Kong. The taste is very similar to that of our yogurts, but carbonated.
14. Jones Soda — Dirt, Perspiration, and Grass
To end this article in style, we bring you some soft drinks with a strange premise, but still very interesting. In 2007, the Jones Soda company launched a limited edition of “natural” flavors, inspired by the taste of a good football game. Developed in honor of the Seahawks hometown team, the Seahawks Collector pack includes bottled versions of Perspiration, Grass, Dirt, Sports Ointment and Sweet Victory.
Which of these soda flavors would you dare to try? And which one wouldn’t be willing to take the risk of proving it? Comment!
