13 Brazilian celebrities more famous abroad than in our country

After the international success of the singer Anitta, many thought that she had been the first Brazilian to conquer the public abroad. But what few people know is that there are so many other artists who are even more famous outside the country. And you know what they all have in common? The talented Brazilian blood.

Romero Britto was born into a humble family in Recife. He is a plastic artist internationally known for his works with sculpture and painting. Recognized as a pop artist, he has sold paintings to many famous Americans such as Michael Jackson, Madonna and Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Although many of us have already seen notebooks, blouses or even upholstery with Romero prints, his fame among foreigners manages to be much greater than among Brazilians.

Cristiana Reali, born in São Paulo, is a renowned actress in Paris, where she is based because she grew up and lived since childhood. She has built a solid and high-impact career in French cinemas and theaters, in addition to her journey as a publicity face.

Born in Blumenau, Tiago is one of the most envied basketball players in the entire sport. Of German descent, he stands 2.11 meters tall. In 2014, he became the first Brazilian to win an NBA title.

Maria do Céu is a singer who began to be recognized when her first album was nominated for a Latin Grammy in 2005, with influences from urban music and samba de roots. She became the first international singer called upon to participate in Starbucks’ “Hear Music Debut” series.

A heavy metal band formed in 1984 in the capital of Minas Gerais by brothers Igor Cavalera and Max Cavalera. His music manages to mix thrash metal and death metal with components of African music, indigenous tribal, Japanese and other styles. The band even won several platinum and gold records around the world, in countries such as Australia, France and the United States.

The former model, presenter and actress was born in Paraíba do Sul, Rio de Janeiro. Nívea reveals that she left her life in Brazil to go to the United States with her children and husband for fear of violence in Rio de Janeiro. There, she started to present the program “Nívea Stelmann in America”, which talked about famous Brazilian personalities who lived in the United States.

Morena was born in Rio de Janeiro and left the country at age 7, when the family moved to New York. She became famous at 23, when she played Inara Serra, in the series Firefly. She is best known for her acting roles in Homeland and Gotham, as well as her huge success as Vanessa on Deadpool. And she even debuted speaking Portuguese in the scenes of the fourth season of Sessão de Terapia, with Selton Mello.

Niece of the majestic Sonia Braga, Alice seems to have been born with an inclination towards the arts. Although she was born in São Paulo and became known for her great role in Cidade de Deus, it is in the “gringa” that the actress seems to be most successful. It is possible that anyone who has seen the character Lord Robin Arryn, in Game of Thrones, can hardly imagine that the actor who plays him is Brazilian, born in Ribeirão Preto, São Paulo. Lino Facioli is also of Austrian and Portuguese descent and started acting classes at the age of 7. This appears to have been a turning point in his career – as at age 21 he was cast in the renowned Netflix production Sex Education, which he considers one of the best in his entire career. Amazing, no?
