12 Villages in England That Look Like They’re Right Out of a Fairy Tale

The “costwolds” are rural villages in England that look like fairy tales. Time stands still in these beautiful villages, which attract thousands of tourists every year. In some of them lived historical characters like Jane Austen and William Shakespeare. Others served as a backdrop for films such as Pride and Prejudice and Harry Potter🇧🇷 Its landscapes and houses built in an ancient style are the dream of any traveller.

1. biddestone

The charming little town in the county of Wiltshire has less than a thousand inhabitants. It has a church, chapel and bars to visit and take pictures. What else is found in the place is tranquility for those who want to rest from the hustle and bustle of the big city.

2. Snowshill

In this small village, there is a very old feudal mansion, the Manor House, which still keeps relics with centuries of history. The beauty of its landscapes attracts travelers from all corners, who feel like they are the protagonists of fairy tales.

3. Lacock

For Jane Austen fans, two films were shot here based on her books: Emma and Pride and Prejudice🇧🇷 It is possible to visit Mr. Darcy or feel like Lizzie Bennett walking the countryside trails. Furthermore, this beautiful and idyllic village served as the backdrop for the filming of Harry Potter🇧🇷 The place is managed by the National Trust, responsible for preserving the same magical atmosphere of the past. Some buildings date back to the 18th century.

4. Bibury

Located in Gloucestershire, the village seems frozen in time. Rustic houses, small porches, trails and the surrounding forest may well have inspired legendary author J. R. R. Tolkien to write The Hobbit🇧🇷 There are no signs of modernity in the place and its landscapes stimulate the imagination to feel like Frodo himself.

5. Stanton

With just 200 people, Stanton has captivating places. Some buildings belonged to feudal lords from the 16th century. It’s amazing that it’s only two hours away from London

6. Hambleden

Hambleden’s “haunted” landscape explains why it was chosen as the backdrop for scenes from films such as 101 Dalmatians and The headless Knight, by Tim Burton. The village belongs to the district of Buckinghamshire and is just an hour’s drive from the capital of England.

7. Edale

One of the attractions of this village is the Pennine Trail, 429 km long, which leads to Scotland. It is worth spending the night in one of its charming inns. The fresh air and beautiful views of the English countryside are not to be missed.

8. Dunster

Dunster is fascinating from beginning to end. You arrive on a historic train and can visit an ancient castle, center of local tourism. In Somerset County and neighboring Exmoor National Park there are other attractions such as cultural centers and museums.

A lovely little town on the Isle of Wigth with cafes, pubs, inns and a shopping center located within the town. The houses with roofs covered with vegetation create a dreamlike, timeless and peaceful atmosphere.

11. Chipping Campden

The buildings in this beautiful village are made of limestone golden as honey, extracted from quarries in the region. Chipping Campden has restaurants, hotels and inns in the best English style of fairy tales.

12. Bourton on the Water

It is called the “Venice of the Costwolds”, for its walks along the River Windrush, with stone bridges that cross it. One of the rural cities with the largest number of inhabitants, set in a bygone era and attracting tourists from all over the world.
