The ideal bra should support the breasts during active movements, be visually appealing and help correct posture. And once we found such a miracle, we fell in love with it and bought as many pieces as possible. However, few people stop to think that this undergarment has a set shelf life, and can become unusable even before its hooks start to come loose.
O awesome.club decided to investigate the signs that show that you need to change your favorite bra for a new one. In addition, we share some secrets for you to choose correctly and take care of your bra in the right way.
The lifespan of a bra is mainly affected by whether it was chosen correctly or not. If you make a mistake regarding size, you are guaranteeing not only discomfort, but also pain sensations. We have already published a post that explains how to take the necessary measurements to determine the correct size of the piece in your case. And there are other tricks that also help you choose the most suitable piece.
When you find the perfect bra, it’s important not to overdo it by wearing it every day. Otherwise, it will be useless in 2 or 3 months.
How do you know if your bra needs replacing?
1. Two finger rule
A correctly fitted bra should not be too tight. Under the contour, i.e. under the lower horizontal strip, you should be able to introduce two fingers. As for the clasp, your fist should enter without difficulty. If these parameters have increased slightly, it means that the bra is stretched, and it needs to be changed to a new one.
2. Hooks
A bra in the correct size should not be closed by the last hooks. As the garment is worn, the fabric sags. If you’ve already reached the last row of hooks, unfortunately it’s because the bra no longer supports the weight of your breasts properly.
3. Moves up
A well-chosen bra should stay still. In other words, after putting it on in the morning, you must forget that the part exists. If, however, with each movement, the bra goes up, it is because the piece will not last long.
4. Contour
The cups of a well-chosen bra should gently encircle the breasts, leaving no gaps. If the outline starts to show clearly under any T-shirt, the T-shirt has reached the end of its useful life. Time to switch!
5. Service life
The lifespan of a well-chosen bra is proportional to the frequency of its use. Ideally, your closet should have at least 4 to 5 permanent-use bras. Thus, each of them will last at least one year.
