12 Tips for cleaning up what we thought was hopeless

1. Clean white surfaces

Borax and baking soda can be added to a mild soap and work as a detergent. In addition to using it on clothes, it serves to clean the floor and neutralize bad odors. To prepare this cleaner, start by grating a bar of soap. Bring to a boil with a little water and add two teacups of baking soda and two of borax until you get a homogeneous mixture.

When it cools, add water until it acquires the desired consistency and store in clean bottles. When using, remember to shake well.

2. Eliminate accumulated limescale

Kettles allow us to have hot water at all times, but with use they accumulate limescale, no matter how often they are washed. To eliminate it effectively, mix a cup of vinegar tea and another of water, boil the mixture for a few minutes and that’s it. Remember to rinse or clean the kettle very well with a damp cloth before using it again.

3. Clean the fan without disassembling it

One of the hardest parts of the home to clean is the fan. If you have a model like the one pictured above, here’s the solution so you don’t have to disassemble it when cleaning. Put two tablespoons of bicarbonate, one of liquid soap and one cup of vinegar in a spray bottle, mix well and apply to the fan. Then place a plastic bag that completely covers it and leave it on for five minutes.

All the dirt will be in the bag and you will be able to enjoy a fan that does not spread dust throughout the house. It is advisable to clean it once a week to avoid dust accumulation.

4. Remove the scale from the shower

A place that we can sometimes forget, but which also needs a deep cleaning, is the shower. To clean it and leave it as new, just mix a cup of vinegar tea and half a cup of water. Immerse the shower in the solution and let it act for two hours. Afterwards, just rinse very well.

5. Eliminate bad odors from the washing machine

After constant use, washing machines can start to smell a little unpleasant and even impregnate your clothes with that bad odor. To prevent this from happening, put baking soda with water in the fabric softener dispenser and fill the washer with a high load of water.

Another option is to use vinegar. Place two cups of tea and let the washer perform a complete wash cycle with warm water. When finished, pass a damp cloth inside to remove any residue and that’s it.

In a container put three tablespoons of liquid soap, three of bicarbonate and a little vinegar, fill with warm water and mix well. Add the cloths soaking them well and let it act for 30 minutes. Rinse with cold water and soap. This will help quickly eliminate the bad smell and grease.

You can also add a teacup of baking soda or vinegar to the washer and let it rest before finishing the wash cycle, but remember to clean it well before using it to wash clothes.

If soap doesn’t work its magic and the stain won’t go away, put hydrogen peroxide in a steamer, spray it over the affected area, and scrub with a toothbrush.

Wipe off excess with a damp cloth and place a thin layer of baking soda over the stain. Let it dry for three to five minutes, run the vacuum cleaner through the bicarbonate and you’re done.

10. Keep pillows always white

With use, it is normal for the pillows to start to change color. To recover the white tone that we love so much, add lemon juice with hydrogen peroxide when washing them. If you want something more potent, you can use one cup of baking soda and one cup of vinegar with your favorite soap.

11. Say goodbye to the bad smell of the sink

A simple but effective trick. Put two tablespoons full of baking soda in the sink, then pour hot water slowly until all the slime is removed. Remember to do it when there are no dishes to wash and repeat the operation whenever the bad smell threatens to return.

12. Make steel appliances like new

Refrigerators, microwaves, ranges and any stainless steel surface can get stains from everyday use. To eliminate them completely and without harming your appliance, apply baking soda on the stain and gently rub with a damp cloth or sponge. When finished, remove the excess with a damp cloth and get the shine back.
