The story of Gloria Pires and Orlando Morais proves that for love, time is unshakable

Some couples are made up of people who seem to be “made” for each other. It’s cliche, we know! But there are stories that give that warm heart and give hope that we have the same experience in our own relationships. This is the case of the story of actress Gloria Pires and singer Orlando Morais, who have been together for over 30 years. Impressive, but at the same time, admirable, isn’t it? Is there a secret to the longevity of a relationship?

Gloria Pires is an old acquaintance of the Brazilian public. She started her television career at just 5 years old and, since then, has starred in major soap operas such as Mulheres de Areia (the 1993 remake), Anjo Mau, Vale Tudo and Éramos Seis (the 2019 version). She also starred in the film duology Se Eu Fosse Você and played the role of psychiatry Nise da Silveira in Nise: O Coração da Loucura.

Orlando Morais, on the other hand, embarked on another side of the artistic world, the musical. He is a singer-songwriter and started his career in 1990 with the self-titled Orlando Morais, who had the partnership of great names in music such as Caetano Veloso and Cazuza. He had nine albums released and hits such as “Divinamente nua, a lua”, “Ninguém”, “Almost”, among others – some of which became themes of soap operas.

The couple met in the late 1980s and after five months they started dating. After only three months of dating, they decided to take the next step, sealing their marriage. The people around didn’t understand, they thought it was too early, they questioned if they were expecting a child to advance the marriage.

But it was none of those things. They loved each other so much that they were already sure what they wanted to do: spend the rest of their lives together. “There were some questions, but something made us sure about that decision,” said Gloria.

The doubts of others, according to Gloria, were never a reason for them to question the feelings that one had for the other. “During all these years we had to overcome many obstacles: prejudice, envy, evil… but, by his side, I felt big and strong to go through EVERYTHING, because I was no longer alone”, said the actress.

When asked about the “secret” of the relationship, both are clear and emphasize that the relationship is not perfect, that there are ups and downs and, in addition to love, partnership and mutual support are needed. Orlando once said that “marriage is a daily achievement”. He added: “We don’t have characters for each other and we trust each other a lot. We humanize each other, knowing that we can make mistakes. We have a great desire to understand each other without plans or goals of happiness that will never be fulfilled”.

In turn, Gloria said: “There is no formula. First thing, the two people have the same interests. Although it is very important for each one to have their individuality, because we are talking about a relationship. And she needs both people, and people aren’t perfect. When I fall, the other helps, gives me a hand”.

The fact that Gloria is a single mother — of the firstborn Cleo, the result of her previous marriage with singer Fábio Jr. — did not cause Orlando to avoid the relationship. He took care of Cleo as if she were his daughter. On her social media, the stepdaughter makes statements to her stepfather and even calls him father too (with the right to post in celebration of Father’s Day, for both her parents).

And the converse is true: Orlando calls her “little daughter” and occasionally posts for/about Cleo. You can see his affection for his stepdaughter.

The couple still had three more children: Antônia, Ana and Bento. On social media, the family appears to be very close. Gloria and Orlando show that they are doting parents, always supporting, encouraging and promoting their children’s work.

If we look at the comments on each one’s Instagram posts, it is possible to notice that the children are also always “marking presence”, demonstrating that love and partnership involves the whole family.

The year 2021 was somewhat challenging and with moments of distress for the Pires Morais family. Orlando needed to be hospitalized for ten days due to health issues. And despite the fear they were left with about his health condition, he recovered and afterwards it was just celebration and relief. “I want to tell you that I’m ready for whatever comes next. Your love gives me strength and invigorates my faith.”

Orlando and Gloria are not ashamed to show the affection they have for each other. It’s beautiful to see! Even after 30 years together — disputing everyone who doubted their “hurry” to seal the union — they act like a couple hopelessly in love. The companionship between the two and friendship overflows even for those who only see it on social media.
