seal and mark

The easiest method to check is to look at the seal and brand. The information that crosses the seal data with the metal data can be easily found on the Internet. Just find it and check with the gem. The numbers need to be legible, otherwise it’s better not to risk it.

To determine the amount of precious metal contained in the jewelry, place the comma after the second number, the figure obtained will be the percentage of the content. For example, the 925 silver seal means 92.5% pure metal.

Gold seals: 375, 500, 583, 585, 750, 916, 958, 999 Silver seals: 800, 830, 875, 925, 960, 999 Platinum seals: 850, 900, 950, 999

Chalk

One of the simplest methods of checking is to use a piece of chalk. Apply regular chalk to the silver fixture. If it turns dark, then the silver is real.

Iodine

Gold can be checked with the help of iodine. If it leaves a stain on the jewelry, be careful. It is likely to be a forgery.

The drop of iodine applied to the platinum surface becomes dark, in addition, the denser it is, the higher the mark on the jewelry.

Vinegar

Gold fakes very quickly take on a dark hue in vinegar. Therefore, to verify the authenticity of the jewelry, it is enough to put a little vinegar in a glass and leave the piece inside for 5 minutes.

sulfur ointment

The authenticity of silver can be proven with the help of a sulfur ointment. If the silver is real, then the place where the ointment was placed will have a dark blue stain. Rest assured that the ointment can be removed easily.

ammonia

When in contact with most metals, ammonia darkens the surface. Already in contact with platinum this does not happen.

stones

diamonds

A real stone does not become cloudy, as it has a high thermal conductivity.

Emerald

Pearl

Real pearls are always expensive, so don’t expect any offers, it will be a fake. To determine authenticity, use your teeth. When you try to bite into a pearl, you will feel your teeth grinding, as if it were sand. With a fake pearl this does not happen.

Amber

Soak the amber in salted water (3 tablespoons of salt). The glass or plastic product should sink immediately. True amber will float as its weight is less than the weight of salt water.
