12 Brazilian series that are worth a good marathon

1. Most Beautiful Thing

Rio de Janeiro, 1950. This is the setting for Coisa Mais Linda, which tells the story of a woman who has her money stolen by her husband, meets a singer and decides to open a bossa nova nightclub. The series’ history is a delight, but it’s the period costumes that end up stealing the show. Available on Netflix.

2. Tune

Doni, Nando and Rita are three young people who grew up in the favela and who fight for their dreams, each in their own way. In Sintonia there is a lot of music, religion, slang and a very modern and interesting plot. Get ready to have the song “Te Amo Sem Compromisso” in your head for a long time. And you can watch it anytime on Netflix.

3. 3%

Imagine a post-apocalyptic future where only 3% of the population can live with dignity in a better place. This is the plot of 3%, science fiction series available on Netflix. 3% has already been nominated for the Fénix Ibero-American Film Award and has been renewed for a fourth (and final) season.

4. Necropolis

Have you ever imagined yourself working in a morgue and facing death every day? This is the main plot of the gaucho series Necrópolis, which follows the trajectory of the young doctor Richard. Shown on the Multishow channel, this humor series follows Natália, a single young woman who faces the dilemmas of adult life in a very peculiar way. Sessions with her therapist, Dr. Frida, they are so much fun. On Globo Play, the five seasons are available, which aired from 2010 to 2013.

7. Under Pressure

How about a Grey’s Anatomy-style series, but in the Brazilian context? The acclaimed Under Pressure shows the dramas of a medical team specializing in emergencies working in a public hospital. Aired by Rede Globo, the series already has three seasons.

Brazilian production shown by HBO, O Negócios tells the story of three women who decided to use their knowledge of administration and marketing with a different objective: to make a name for themselves in the world of sex. The four seasons aired between 2013 and 2018.

Who here remembers the teenagers Laranjinha and Acerola? They were the protagonists of the series Cidade dos Homem, which presented the reality of a needy community in Rio de Janeiro. 27 episodes were aired, the last of which premiered on December 16, 2005. You can find them all on Globo Play.
