11 Signs You’re in a Mature Relationship That Will Last Forever

Share:

While life would be completely boring if you were an adult in every way, there is a certain point where you must always strive for adult status, and that is your relationship.

No one wants a partner who looks more like a baby who demands attention, who is always jealous and needs constant proof of your love for him. You don’t have time for that. You are already too busy worrying about other areas of your life.

But there is so much research on what constitutes a happy relationship that it can be overwhelmingly confusing. You might be surprised to see that many relationships only work out after a long time; as apparently having low expectations at the beginning is indicative of a lasting foundation. Also, if you are going to get married, don’t have such an expensive wedding, as very expensive weddings often lead to divorce.

If you’re already in a relationship, you might be wondering if there are aspects of your romance that point towards maturity and longevity. There certainly are, and they’re not hard to find.

Here are 11 signs you’re in a mature relationship that will last forever:

1. You have your own life outside of the relationship

No matter how much you love each other and love spending time together, you both need a solid dose of independence to build a healthy and lasting relationship.

That means you can do your own chores all day without feeling like you need to text or call to let your love know what you’re doing.

2. You have your own friends and social life

A common characteristic of happy couples is that they enjoy the moments to the fullest when they are together, but also when they are apart.

You have your own identity within your relationship and so does your partner. Part of that identity includes the quality time you spend with your friends and family.

3. You encourage each other in your ambitions

Going back to how important it is to maintain your own identity in a relationship, it is also crucial to a happy relationship. let everyone have their own dreamswhether they are related to your career or your hobbies.

If you know you can always count on your partner to motivate you when you’re looking for something that’s really important to you, that means you have a solid foundation. Keep it up!

4. Do you share household chores evenly?

No partner who is emotionally adult will allow you to do everything at home. These are works that you share together.

In 2007, a Pew Research study showed that housework was one of the three most important things that contributed to a lasting marriage (the other two being faithfulness and good sex).

62% of married people say that distributing household chores is essential if you want to keep the “fire burning”.

5. You easily forgive each other’s mistakes

If you’re confident in your relationship, you don’t have to be critical of your partner all the time. You prefer to forgive mistakes and forget them when one of you falter – of course I’m not talking about betrayal… in this case the other story.

6. Do you feel comfortable taking a vacation alone?

As fun as traveling together is, it’s a good sign if the two of you can take a trip on your own every now and then. It could be the perfect opportunity for you to have some alone time and relax and unwind in the way you love most, without having to answer to anyone else.

7. You make an effort to bond with each other’s family members

I’m not saying you need to be best friends with your boyfriend’s brother. However, bonding with them sure helps to have a healthy relationship with your love because your partner’s family will be in your life often enough.

8. You don’t skimp on affection

Affection is a very important part of showing love for one another. A happy couple will kiss, hug and caress each other often.

Small gestures, such as greetings at the beginning and end of each day, are very important to reflect how adult your love is. If this affection extends to publicly, even better.

9. You know how to argue without hurting each other

There are good and bad discussions. And you need the good ones for your relationship to survive. Even when you’re angry, you know that taking it out on your partner won’t help you to be right, and that’s great for your relationship.

10. You communicate well and regularly

When you feel like it’s time to make an important decision, I hope you trust your partner so the two of you can discuss it together. It shows that you trust each other, want to share your lives together, and value each other’s opinions.

But an adult couple not only communicate when they have important matters to attend to, but also regularly and intimately.

11. You strive to have quality time together, even when you are busy

This goes without saying – you won’t find an adult couple who don’t crave each other’s company. The basis for any healthy relationship is how much the couple nurtures and cares for the relationship.
