11 Celebrities Who Were Pregnant While Filming TV Shows or Movies Without It Affecting Their Work

Participating in the recording of a series or a movie is hard work, as celebrities need to put themselves in the shoes of their characters to achieve an authentic interpretation. But while recording, the actors continue to have a real life behind the camera. Sometimes actresses decide to be mothers, but have signed a contract with the producers. During the filming of the third season of Seinfeld, Julia became pregnant with her first child, Henry Hall, born in July 1992. The writers chose to dress her character, Elaine, in baggy clothes or any large accessory to hide her belly. Currently Henry is 29 years old.

Actress Claire Danes played CIA agent Carrie Mathison in the television series Homeland. She was eight months pregnant when filming for the second season ended. The pregnancy could not be incorporated into the plot, because of the characteristics of her character, so they decided to use digital retouching to hide the actress’s protruding belly. Claire’s son Cyrus was born in December 2012 and is now a 9-year-old boy.

During the filming of the sixth season of the series Grey’s Anatomy, the producers had to hide, in front of the cameras, the pregnancy of Ellen Pompeo, because for the writers it was not yet time for her character (Meredith) to have a child. In September 2009, Stella Luna was born, currently 12 years old.

Zooey Deschanel was seven months pregnant while filming the fifth season of New Girl. The actress only managed to hide her belly for a few episodes and was soon replaced by Megan Fox, until she returned from maternity leave. Zooey gave birth to their daughter Elsie in August 2015, and today the girl is 5 years old.

Holly Marie Combs, actress of the series Young Witches, announced that she was pregnant during the filming of the sixth season. The producers hid the pregnancy until they decided which character of hers would have a child. Apparently, the character Piper’s pregnancy had been planned before it was known that the actress was expecting a baby. Holly gave birth to her first child, Finley Arthur, in 2004, and he is now 17 years old.

Spanish actress Amaia Salamanca’s pregnancy was well advanced when she returned to the Velvet set. For this reason, the production had no choice but to make Barbara, her character, also pregnant. In April 2014, at the age of 28, she gave birth to her first child, a girl named Olivia Varo.

Kerry Washington’s pregnancy interfered with the recording of the series Scandals: Behind the scenes of Power, in which she played the protagonist. This forced the producers to reduce the number of episodes in order to hide the actress’ condition. Currently, her daughter Isabelle is 7 years old.

Actress Cobie Smulders brought the character of Robin to life in the comedy series How I Met Your Mother. Cobie announced she was pregnant months after co-star Alyson Hannigan announced her pregnancy. To disguise, they used various things to hide her belly and made her character remain seated for most of the scenes. In May 2009, the actress gave birth to her daughter named Shaelyn.

Madonna, known as the queen of pop, shot the controversial 1996 film, impersonating Eva Perón, pregnant with her daughter Lourdes Leon. That’s why Evita’s team deftly used costumes and cameras so that no one would notice that Madonna was pregnant with her eldest daughter, now 24.
