10 Skincare Mistakes We Make When Trusting Beauty Influencers

The Internet has gifted us with a huge number of beauty gurus, who promote, advise and sometimes even invent skin care tricks. However, the abundance and availability of information requires greater critical thinking, as not all influencers are true experts and professionals. Perhaps you have already been inspired by the example of a blogger and are thinking of doing a vacuum massage with cans, or using an ultrasonic brush for facial cleaning? We will talk about the disadvantages of some of these methods in this article.

We, from awesome.club, we carefully studied some of the products and procedures, as well as beauty habits that have become popular. And now we would like to tell you about some mistakes in skin care and warn about possible negative consequences.

10. We use cosmetics with particles that reflect light

Cosmetics manufacturers are paying more and more attention to glitter, both in packaging and in their features, adding glitter and light-reflecting particles to different products, from body scrubs to makeup.

Experts, however, believe that we should be more careful when using them. Although they are intended to give the face a refreshed and healthy appearance, at the same time, such particles can cause irritation, dehydration and, consequently, skin rashes. People prone to acne need to be extra careful.

9. Vacuum massage with cans

Vacuum massage of the face (against wrinkles and aging) and legs (against sagging and the “orange peel look”) has gained enormous popularity in recent years. However, these procedures are not as safe as they might seem at first glance, and they are not for everyone.

So, the main contraindication for a facial massage is the presence of warts and rashes on the skin, and for a body massage — fragility and vascular permeability, which can cause the appearance of spider veins and varicose veins. Therefore, despite the apparent simplicity and safety of the procedure, it never hurts to consult a specialist first.

8. Use creams with alcohol in the composition to get rid of oily sheen on the skin

Probably every woman dealing with oily skin has tried to get rid of shine and deal with excessive sebum production with the help of alcohol-containing products. Yes, this method can give an instant drying effect. However, in the long term, it leads to even more unpleasant consequences, as these agents harm and damage the skin’s lipid barrier.

It is important to point out that there are different types of alcohol. Harmful ones include ethyl, denatured, or isopropyl alcohol. The fatty ones, such as cetyl, stearyl and cetearyl, are safer, do not dehydrate the skin and even have a softening effect. Therefore, products with its presence in small quantities are quite acceptable for any skin.

7. Use hair removal cream

Depilation cream is a very tempting product: it is affordable, easy to use and promises an effect like waxing, but without pain. The problem is that the hair falls out or dissolves due to the impact of a mixture of strong chemical compounds, which certainly causes damage to the skin.

At a minimum, it can cause irritation or an allergic reaction, at a maximum — chemical burns. Therefore, it is worth using such a product very carefully, and definitely less often, given the characteristics of your own skin.

6. Spray perfume on your hair

Although we know the best points to apply perfume, sometimes it’s tempting to spray it all over the body, like in the movies. And there’s nothing wrong with doing it on one occasion.

However, if you are one of those who have the habit of spraying perfume on your hair, keep in mind that ethanol, which is almost always present in perfumes, has a very aggressive effect on your hair. Thus, when applied to the wires, it can to harm the hair structure and cause split ends. And contact with the scalp can cause dryness and dandruff.

5. Use coconut oil as a skin moisturizer

Coconut oil is considered by many to be a universal beauty product and is often used to moisturize the skin. However, things are not so simple. In fact, thanks to elements like lauric and caprylic acid, vitamin E and saturated fats, coconut oil really softens and restores rough skin around elbows and heels.

But this does not mean that it will have the same effect on the face as on any other part of the body. Keep in mind that coconut oil is highly comedogenic, which means it can clog your pores and lead to breakouts. Therefore, it is great as an ingredient in a professional product, but it should not be used in its pure form as a mask or moisturizer.

4. Try to moisturize your skin and remove blackheads with Vaseline

Vaseline is also on the list of best moisturizing products. In fact, it has no such effect. The feeling of hydration after using Vaseline is achieved by “locking in”, or retaining moisture under the product layer.

But with moisture, Vaseline traps excess sebum and dirt in the skin. This causes an unpleasant effect in the form of blackheads. Vaseline can soothe dry skin, soothe chapped lips, and heal minor wounds. Therefore, it can be used, but with caution and in reasonable amounts, especially for acne-prone people.

3. Lamination of eyelashes at home

Lamination of eyelashes and eyebrows is gradually moving from the category of salon procedures to home practice. However, experts are concerned about this trend and do not recommend performing the technique at home. Professionals spend several months improving their skills to be able to perform the procedure safely, complying with all sterilization regulations.

Even a small mistake can lead to unpleasant consequences, damaging eyelashes, sensitive eyelid skin, and even vision. Products purchased on their own can turn out to be fakes without the necessary certification, which also poses a direct threat to health.

2. Using kinesio tapes for other purposes

Kinesio taping, or elastic bandage, is a relatively new technique used to relieve pain and muscle spasms. It seems quite simple and safe, but still, it does not suit everyone and not in all cases: there are a number of contraindications. In addition, it is a mistake to think that the use of elastic bandage in the abdomen area can help to lose weight.

First, there are no studies that prove its effectiveness. Second, existing research focuses only on abdominal support after cesarean section to favor exercise as part of postpartum physiotherapy. That is, there is no reason to believe that the bandage alone helps to lose weight.

1. Use ultrasonic brushes for facial cleaning

Cleanliness is essential for beautiful and healthy skin, but as we all know, “the best is the enemy of the good”. Facial scrubs and cleansing brushes, despite their popularity, can actually be quite harsh on the skin, as they upset the natural pH balance and cause excessive dryness and irritation.

Also, many people forget that scrubs and brushes should not be used on inflamed or irritated skin, as abrasive materials can exacerbate the problem. The best thing you can do for the health of your facial skin is to clean it with foams and a konjac sponge, and don’t forget to moisturize it well. A deeper cleaning should be carried out no more than once or twice a week.
