But this frequency depends on the situation: when expressing gratitude or demanding food, the pet will produce sounds of different tones. Purring at a frequency from 25 to 150 Hz accelerates the healing of bones, tendons and relieves pain. Veterinarians also point out that, often, a healthy cat purrs next to a sick one.

What’s more, scientists also consider that cats evolved such a healing mechanism. By applying it at rest, the animal is performing “self-prevention”.

2. Why do flamingos stand on one leg?

The flamingo is distinguished by its extraordinary anatomy: a large body with a long neck supported by long, slender legs. In addition, these birds can stand still for a long time by balancing on one leg. Why, after all, do they rest in such an apparently uncomfortable position?

This happens due to thermoregulation: the proportion of its legs that are not covered with feathers means that, on a windy day, the flamingo loses a lot of heat. Therefore, it hides the other leg in its plumage to warm it up. Furthermore, the result is that such a position is not at all uncomfortable for them: the special physiology of these birds prevents the leg from bending, so it manages to keep it straight without muscle tension.

3. Why doesn’t the tower of Pisa fall?

Due to erroneous engineering calculations, the famous tower of Pisa began to lean to one side from the time of its construction in 1173. For many centuries, authorities tried to restore the balance of the building. In 1990 they even had to close access to tourists due to the danger, as the famous tower was about to collapse completely.

Over several years, the responsible engineers took various architectural and technical measures, fixed outriggers and careful earth work was carried out. Finally, experts came to the conclusion that with the help of engineering technologies, the tower for the first time in several centuries ceased to fall. Moreover, it is now straightening: in the last 20 years, the belfry has raised about four centimeters. The construction, as it is now, is super stable and it is not necessary to worry about the safety of people or the monument itself.

4. What does the puffin’s beak hide?

The ornithologist Jamie Dunning, from the University of Nottingham (in the United Kingdom), when studying puffins, intended to find ultraviolet particles in the plumage of the birds due to their belonging to the family Alcidae🇧🇷 However, by no means did I expect the birds’ beaks to light up as well.
