It is not easy to make a representative inventory of phrases about sex. The topic in many societies or communities remains taboo. For this reason, almost everything that is said about sexuality seeks to be transgressive, humorous or concealing. It is not a matter that is talked about with the same naturalness with which we can talk about other topics.

Many people understand that talking about sex is entering into intimate territory., and by doing so they expedite the path to that room. Furthermore, this can happen regardless of how abstract the debate is. That is to say, personal stories may be absent from it, and the sensation we are talking about may still exist.

On the other hand, sex is linked to a pleasure that several religious currents have pursued.. These currents have defended for centuries that sexuality should be reduced to the context of the couple and have a purely reproductive purpose. Outside of this conception, sexuality would be a perversion, a deviation deserving of censorship, identification and punishment.

1. Sex in Genesis

Indeed, according to the book of Genesis, the first sin of the human being was to have sexual relations. 5. Unnatural acts

The author of this phrase about sex is not known, but he is obviously someone sharp, although it does not cease to spark controversy. Our anonymous author says that: “The only unnatural sexual act is the one that cannot be done”.

If we speak from a purely biological perspective, the author is absolutely right. Human beings are nature and, therefore, cannot do something unnatural. From the social point of view, there are actions that transgress the minimum agreements of coexistence and cultural order. For example, harassment or rape.

6. Tenderness and strength

This is a beautiful phrase about sex, which moves away from the debate about whether it is “good” or “bad” and, instead, links it directly to love and tenderness. Oscar Wilde said it and points out: “In art as in love, tenderness is what gives strength”.

The phrase includes physical love, as well as sentimental love. It is not virulence or intensity that gives strength to sexuality, but tenderness.. It is that hint of tenderness that makes the relationship between lovers closest and most enduring.

Surely many phrases about sex that can illustrate us are left out.. These, however, are ingenious and profound enough to invite us to reflect. In any case, the central question on the subject remains up in the air: why make sex a taboo/allow it to remain so?
