10 Inventions that are part of everyday life and were created much longer than we imagined

We live in a world surrounded by so many technological modernities that sometimes we don’t stop to think about how each thing was invented, how it originally looked. To arrive at the way we know each object today, several studies and researches were carried out over the years.

O awesome.club shows 10 inventions that revolutionized the world and are much older than we think. Come check!

1. Microphone

Realizing that the telephone had a low transmission quality, the inventor Emile Berliner, even with little knowledge about electricity, produced the first microphone, amplifying the volume of the transmitted voice, in 1876. Impressed with the new device, Graham Bell — through Bell Telephone Company — bought Berliner’s patent, and was the first company to commercialize the microphone.

2. Vaccine

The first surveys on the origin of the vaccine come from China, around the tenth century. However, it was in 1796 that it began to be presented in a similar way to the current ones. Thanks to research from Edward Jennerit was possible to continue the biological preparations of the immunizing agents.

3. Touch screen

Touchscreen is something that seems so current, after all, for a few years now, several modern electronic devices have been able to work with a simple touch on the screen, such as smartphones, tablets, ATMs, etc. However, it has its origins in the 1960s, when the engineer Eric Arthur Johnson began describing his idea, explaining how the technology would work through diagrams and photographs of a prototype.

In 1973, the first touchscreens were installed, but it was only in 1998 that the FingerWorks company presented several products with the technology, which was later acquired by Apple.

4. Automobile

Semiautomatic, electric cars, with airbags, air conditioning, in short, a thousand possibilities can be found in today’s cars. All thanks to the work of Nicolas-Joseph Cugnot, French engineer, who created the first self-propelled cargo transport vehicle. In 1769, a small model of the three-wheeled, steam-powered carriage was made. However, in 1770, the full-size version was built.

Years later, the German Karl Friedrich Benz invented the first gas-powered car — the Benz Patent-Motorwagen, in 1886. The automobile reached 8 kilometers per hour.

5. Cell phone

Currently we use the cell phone for everything, from a simple call to even shopping and paying bills, and it is almost impossible to remember the old “brick”. In 1947, a high-capacity telephone system was developed, interconnected by several antennas considered cells, hence the origin of the name “cellular”.

Already in 1956, the first device was developed by the Swedish company Ericsson, weighing around 40 kg, and was used in car trunks. Until in 1973 Motorola created a “lighter” device, the Motorola Dynatac 8000X, so that people could carry it with them. The cell phone was 25 cm long and 7 cm wide, weighed “only” 1 kg and the battery lasted about 20 minutes.

6. Stack

An important means of making some objects work, the electric battery appeared in 1800 when Alessandro Volta performed a series of experiments using different metals. Observing that electricity originates from the contact between different metals, he built a device that transforms this chemical energy into electrical energy. The first pile was made with a column where pairs of different metals were placed in the shape of interspersed discs with external conductive wires at their ends.

7. Fridge

Think of an appliance that cannot be missing in a home: the refrigerator, capable of preserving food, keeping drinks cold, among other functions. The first artificial refrigeration machine was created in 1834 by Jacob Perkins. In 1913, the first domestic refrigerator was born, created by Fred W Wolf, known as Domelre (acronym for Domestic Electric Refrigeration). The real success occurred in 1927, when General Electrics launched the model monitor-top🇧🇷

8. Computer

Its history begins in 1820 when Charles Babbage built a calculating machine with programmed mathematical operations, a mechanical system of gears similar to a computer. Years later, the ENIAC, the first valve computer, was developed. In the 1940s, through John von Neumann, the ability to store data was added to the machine, known as von Neumann architecture, a proposal that is still used in modern computers.

9. Ring Light

New essential accessory for those who love to take good photography or filming, the Ring Light we see today was actually developed with another purpose: for dental photography. It was created in 1952 by Lester A. Dine when he saw that dentists had difficulty photographing their patients’ mouths. The light in a circle eliminates the shadows inside the mouth as well as the face.

In 1960, fashion photographers also joined the new device. And recently it became a rage among influencers and also for those who do videoconferencing.
