10 Television works that won new completely revamped versions

Reboots are not new anymore, but they seem to be making a resurgence in the world of television with each passing day. A reboot is nothing more than creating a new version of a fictional work, that is, it can have familiar characters but present a new story, like Rebelde, who after so many years of the Mexican version, returned with a new Netflix production.

The coolest thing about reboots is that they have the ability to add something. In the case of a series, providing an end point when there was none, or updating and exploring new concepts to find plots that didn’t previously exist.

Following the wave of successful reboots created in TV series, the awesome.club will show 10 series that gained new versions over time and left nothing to be desired, quite the contrary. Come check it out with us!

Sabrina the Teenage Witch (1996) — Chilling Adventures of Sabrina (2018)

In 1996 most of us began to follow on television the amusing daily life of a half-witch, played by Melissa Joah Hart, and her talking cat, owner of some of the best lines in the series.
In 2018 a new version was created, with a different title and a much darker story.

This makes Kiernan Shipka’s Sabrina be interpreted with a more serious tone and have a very different personality from the protagonist of the 90s sitcom. Another difference is that Salem the cat does not speak, but continues to appear a lot — in addition to gaining a story of very different origin.

Gossip Girl (2007) — Gossip Girl (2021)

The Upper East Side was introduced to the world with the launch of Gossip Girl, a series focused on excess, drama, gossip and style – and what style, huh? — the characters Serena, Chuck, Blair, Nate, and Dan. With the 2021 reboot, a new generation of New York City private school teens are also introduced to the social surveillance of Gossip Girl.

And if in 2007 the series was already making a buzz with technology — at that time many of us dreamed of having a flip phone like Serena’s (having internet would be a bonus) — the new plot continues to address how social networks have changed over the last few years.

Rebel (2004) — Rebel (2022)

Being a child or teenager between 2004 and 2008 meant, most likely, waiting anxiously for the time when Rebelde started to be shown on TV. Knowing the lyrics of the sextet’s songs was also almost an obligation for the fans.

The truth is that the Mexican soap opera became a true phenomenon in the 2000s and, as difficult as it is to bring back this success, it is always very valid to do a reboot as a tribute. Thus came the new Rebelde, which has the same type of musical universe and manages to update a story well known by all those who followed it.

Young Witches (1998) — Charmed — Next Generation (2018)

The plot of the original version of Charmed follows the story of three witch sisters who use their powers for good, more specifically to help innocent people and hunt demons. The plot of the version released in 2018 is not very different from the old one, however the new generation has greater ethnic diversity in the trio of protagonists: Sarah Jeffery is of Mexican descent, and Melonie Diaz and Madeleine Mantock are Caribbean.

Beverly Hills, 90210 (1990) — 90210 (2008)

The Babysitters Club (1995) — The Babysitters Club (2020)

The Babysitters Club is a TV series based on the Ann M. Martin children’s novel of the same name and follows five best friends in Stoneybrook, Connecticut who decide to start their own babysitting service.

The series originally aired in 1990, and even had a film version in 1995, but in 2020 a reboot was created for the happiness of many fans. The original series and the most recently released one remain fairly faithful to the novels, and each has its own strengths.

Dynasty (1981) — Dynasty (2017)

The 1980s were very prosperous for family drama series, with popular shows like Dynasty. However, those who missed the original series can watch the new version, released in 2017, with the same name.

The reboot is younger and edgier and, of course, has a much more modern story. The cool part is that the Carringtons and Colbys are still in the plot but with new faces, that is, they are interpreted by a new cast.

House House (1987) — Fuller House (2016)

Just like Dynasty, another series that marked the 80s was the ratings success Full House. The original story features widowed father Danny Tanner, who enlists his brother-in-law Jesse Katsopolis and his best friend Joey Gladstone to help raise his three daughters, DJ, Stephanie and Michelle. And with this plot, the plot portrays in a fun and realistic way the joys and difficulties of parenthood.

Fuller House borrows many elements from Full House, but there are some key differences between the two shows — the newer storyline features a more feminine perspective and stars females. Additionally, several of the first cast members reprise their Fuller House characters, some as regular characters.

Julie and the Ghosts (2011) — Julie and the Ghosts (2020)

Julie e os Fantasmas premiered on Band in 2011, and almost 10 years later the gringos created the American version of the children’s series. In the reboot, the premise of the Brazilian story remains the same, but with some different details, such as Julie’s relationship with music and with the three ghosts.

For example, in the Band series, when the band plays, the ghosts disguise themselves with masks, gloves and clothes to form the silhouette of a person. In the American version, the boys manage to be visible to the audience while they are playing along with Julie.

Dancin’ Days (1978) — Dancin’ Days (2014)

The famous Brazilian soap opera won a new version in Portugal, adapted to modern times and the Portuguese reality. From the original version, the ambience of the clubs and the centers was maintained. However, the names of the main characters were changed, as well as the course of events.
