10 Details You Probably Didn’t Notice In The Classic “Mean Girls”

The movie Mean Girls was released in 2004, but it can already be considered a true classic. After all, he marked an entire generation with catchphrases like “on wednesdays we wear pink”. We believe you’ve watched the film several times, but you probably haven’t noticed some “hidden” messages in scenes about Regina George’s group.

Without a doubt, one of the most striking scenes in Mean Girls takes place after the Burn Book information is leaked. To calm the teens’ spirits, the school principal triggers the fire alarm and the sprinkler system causes them all to get drenched. The most curious thing is that, right after, the students are taken to the gym and they are already completely dry. Even the makeup didn’t smudge.

It’s okay that, to understand this error, you need to have more technical knowledge of English. Or rather, chemical elements in English. But don’t you think it’s weird that “silicone” is written on the blackboard behind the science teacher? He should have known that the correct spelling is “silicon” — which means silicon.

When she took over from the iconic Regina George, Cady started to dress like a real “mean girl”. So know that the costume designers took this premise down to the smallest detail. Notice that the character started to wear a pendant with the first letter of her name, just like the old “queen bee”.

Maybe you don’t remember, but at a certain point in the film, Gretchen comments that Regina George won’t let her wear hoop earrings. But after the group dissolves, the character starts to use the accessory. Long live freedom!

Yet another example that the costume designers really knew what they were doing. In the original version of the film, the “mean girls” are called plastics (plásticas, in Portuguese). And did you ever notice that the Christmas costume skirt was made of plastic? Yes, the choice of material was made on purpose, to represent their nickname well.

And since we mentioned Christmas costumes, we also needed to comment on the “Mother Claus” costume hat. At the end, we normally expect it to have a kind of fluffy pompom, correct? But actually, they look like ping pong balls…

In the film, they are all teenagers between the ages of 16 and 17, who experience high school dramas. But in real life, Rachel McAdams (Regina George) was 26 during filming. Lindsay Lohan (Cady) was only 18. That is: there is a big age difference between the two, but we bet that many fans didn’t even notice.

Some people perfectly match the meaning of their names. When the leader of the “mean girls” is introduced in the film, she is referred to as the “queen bee”. And guess what the origin of the name “Regina” is? That’s right, “queen”.

It seems that the continuityist was absent on the day of shooting the Halloween scene. Just as Cady scares her friends, Damian throws all the popcorn in the air. But the next moment, the pot is already full again. I wish it were like this in real life, right?

Regina’s mother, Mrs. George, is another iconic character in the film. And she seems to do everything to feel young and part of the group led by her daughter. It’s possible that you haven’t noticed, but on Wednesday — when everyone is supposed to wear pink — she also wore a set of the same color. We only have one word for it: diva!
