10 Curiosities about the movie “Pokémon: Detective Pikachu” that are worth knowing

In 2016, during the 20th anniversary of the Pokémon media franchise, it was announced that the film Pokémon: Detective Pikachu would hit theaters around the world. The film presents our favorite characters as we’ve never seen them before: in the real world. In addition, it brings impressive visual effects and a super fun story.

the game Detective Pikachu was released in 2016 and was very different from the other games in the franchise, mainly due to the detail that, this time, Pikachu could talk and solve mysteries. In the other games, he just repeated syllables with his name and electrocuted the combatants.

The friendly character needed a voice that was quite representative and worthy of the dimension he already has inside and outside the world of games. Therefore, the producers decided to put the fun Ryan Reynolds as the protagonist of the film. Ryan is known for playing Deadpool and some fans have noticed the similarities between the 2 characters.

In the Portuguese version, the character is voiced by Philippe Maia. Through some adaptations, he brought a little bit of Brazil to Detective Pikachu. Maia has voiced, for example, the mouse Remmy, from Ratatouille, Paul Walker, in Fast and Furious and Chris Rock, in Everybody Hates Chris. Despite Ryan Reynolds’ charisma, the original video game’s voice was much more like the actor’s. Danny DeVito🇧🇷 When the announcement was made, fans petitioned online to have him put in the movie. Warner was in doubt, but after some statements, the producers concluded that Ryan was the best fit for the role.

To choose the protagonist, many animation tests were made with parts of films in which the candidates had acted. They weren’t released, but fans made up their own versions to imagine what the story would look like with Danny in the lead role.

Other actors entered as possible candidates to voice the protagonist, including Hugh Jackman, Dwayne Johnson and Mark Wahlberg.

Robin Williams’ devotion to video games was well known in the showbizz world. The famous once declared that Nintendo contacted him to ask if he would like to be part of a movie in live action about Pokemon; Williams would be the first choice to play Professor Oak, a key character in the original series. Because of his death, the character was retired.

It’s the first time we’ll see the characters living with humans in a very realistic style, but this is film number 23 involving the famous character. Since 1998, films based on the franchise have been made in Japan.

To get the Pokémon to be integrated into the real world, the producers searched the Internet, mainly as a source of inspiration. They were so impressed with artist RJ Palmer’s work that they hired him to be the film’s concept artist.

Latino fans knew that Mexican comedian Omar Chaparro would be in the film, but they were surprised because the actor appeared in the trailer as an alleged villain. THE Legendary Comics announced for this summer (in the northern hemisphere) a graphic novel based on the story of Pokémon: Detective Pikachu. That is, comics are increasingly becoming a phenomenon that surpasses all forms of art.
