CBD oil could help in fibromyalgia

Cannabidiol (CBD) is the most abundant of the 113 cannabinoids found in the hemp plant (Cannabis sativa) and has no psychotropic effect. A review of studies indicates that it may be useful for treating the pain and symptoms of fibromyalgia. Other research indicates it for the pain of arthritis or multiple sclerosis.

fibromyalgia patients they feel chronic pain in the muscles, tiredness, insomnia, digestive problems and hypersensitivity to stimuli.

It’s not just about dulling the pain.

Conventional medicine is pretty helpless with fibromyalgia and focuses almost exclusively on pain management with drugs, they are not free of side effects, and not always with the best results.

According to research, CBD-rich oil could be an option for the care of fibromyalgia patients, although it is not yet among its officially recognized indications. For now, the only indications for CBD are, in most countries, two specific types of epilepsy.

However, CBD products can currently be legally marketed from some European Union countries for use without a prescription.

Free of psychoactive effects

Although CBD is extracted from the hemp plant like marijuana (dried flowers and leaves), it does not have psychotropic effects, that is, it it does not alter perception or cause addiction.

There are different types of hemp plants. The varieties that are cultivated for the production of marijuana have a high content of THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), which is the psychoactive substance that has motivated its inclusion in the list of prohibited drugs.

Other varieties of plants have a very low percentage of THC and can be legally grown to produce hemp fiber and also CBD oil, especially for the cosmetics industry.

Why might CBD work for fibromyalgia?

Various studies show that CBD oil has anti-inflammatory, regulating immunity and protective properties of nerve cells. It also has a relaxing effect that can be useful for managing stress, getting a good night’s sleep, or reducing muscle stiffness.

Although it is not well known how CBD works in the body, there are different hypotheses that explain its beneficial effects. One theory suggests that CBD iPartly interferes with the transmission of the pain signal from nerve cells to the brain.

Another indicates that CBD can activate receptors for the neurotransmitter serotonin, related to the feeling of well-being and good humor.

Regarding the effect of CBD on fibromyalgia, one study found that a deficiency in the production of endocannabinoids (the cannabinoids normally produced by the body) could be the cause of chronic pain. If CBD, that is, cannabinoids, is taken, the deficiency would be solved and the pain would be eliminated.

The use of CBD in cases of fibromyalgia could increase the quality of life and allow the reduction of the dose of painkillers.

How is CBD oil used?

In studies done on CBD and fibromyalgia and other chronic illnesses, participants took 6-8 drops, twice a day. However, it must be remembered that currently, in Spain, the sale of CBD products for internal use is not allowed.

CBD oil can also be applied externally, applying it with a gentle massage over sore areas.
