Staying up all night or getting little sleep usually has an effect on our appearance the next day: it makes us look tired, have dark circles under our eyes and look dull. Whether you have a newborn at home or are out with your friends at night, it’s usually going to take a little work to look radiant at dawn. However, there are a few tips that can help make it look like you’ve slept the seven or eight hours recommended by experts.
O awesome.club presents these simple techniques that will improve your skin and give it a renewed look after those few hours of sleep.
1. Reduce swelling
According to a study in the journal Sleep, sleeping too little makes your eyelids swell. One technique to deflate them is to wash your face with cold water, as this helps to naturally stimulate blood circulation, as well as helping to tone the skin. You can also opt for a cold gel mask, which will considerably alleviate the tired look.
2. One word: exfoliating
Before drying your face, use an exfoliator to remove dead skin cells. It is recommended to do it with damp skin and a nylon brush to improve the results. This will allow you to refresh your skin and make it ready for the next steps. Once finished, dry your face with a towel, but avoid rubbing it into your skin. Better to choose to lightly press the face to eliminate excess water.
3. Green tea, your new best friend
The first tellers of fatigue are your eyes. Green tea has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant power, so it is recommended to place warm green tea bags for two minutes over closed eyes. Once this time has elapsed, do the same next to your nose. This will help reduce swelling and make you feel much better.
4. A good facial massage
The feeling you get after getting a back massage is very satisfying, so why not do the same thing on your face? This will help stimulate circulation and lymphatic drainage. Choose to massage your face with a moisturizer that preferably contains vitamin E, as it is an excellent antioxidant and helps fight cellular aging. Apply in the opposite direction to wrinkles. Massage will help its absorption and allow you to relax facial tension.
5. Liquid concealer to hide imperfections
After you have moisturized your face with a cream and it has been absorbed, the next step is to use a concealer to hide dark circles under your eyes. The skin around the eyes is four times more delicate than the rest of the body, so it is more likely to show this darkening produced by the dilation of capillaries. Putting on a liquid concealer in a yellow shade will allow you to hide the dark shade under your eyes as it neutralizes that blue or purple look.
6. The secret of the base
Once dark circles are covered, mattify and even out the skin on your face. For this, it is recommended to use a translucent foundation, which will help to give an even tone to your entire face. Avoid using creamy foundations, as they can create the opposite effect and make the skin dull and accentuate the tired look.
7. Goodbye, pale skin
As mentioned in the Sleep journal study, skin tends to look paler after a sleepless night. To reduce this effect, it is recommended to use an illuminator that, preferably, has gold or peach tones, as it adapts to practically any skin tone and helps to add shine and light. Apply it to the cheekbones area.
8. Don’t carry too much makeup
Less will always be more, but when we stay up all night, that advice turns to gold. Trying to hide the eyes with too much makeup can have an adverse effect as it will only accentuate the appearance of redness. Therefore, it is recommended to use shades of beige or brown that blur and brighten your eyes. Apply the lighter eyeshadow on the lower lid and the darker eyeshadow on the upper lid for a depth effect. Don’t forget to lift your lashes using mascara on them.
9. Choose foods with vitamin B12
Maybe you crave pizza for breakfast, but doing so won’t get the nutrients you need to recover from a bad night’s sleep. Therefore, ideally, your breakfast should contain foods rich in vitamin B12, as this will help you feel and look better. This vitamin helps reduce tiredness and weakness, and can be found in foods like eggs and milk.
10. Although it seems obvious: water, lots of water
Drinking water helps fight tiredness, irritability and premature aging. In addition, it keeps the skin hydrated and reduces the effects of a sleepless night. It returns shine, reduces headaches and even helps improve concentration.
