Why Lacoste will ‘kill’ its traditional crocodile

Lacoste, a French brand known for the crocodile logo, decided to change its logo. But don’t be sad, because the beloved and well-known animal will not disappear forever, it will only give its place for a while to other animals that need our protection.

O awesome.club presents in this post the joint project of Lacoste and the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), through which they seek to save endangered species.

From the moment the company was founded in 1933, the crocodile has never stopped decorating the famous polo shirts and it’s hard to imagine anything different in its place. Times have changed and, today, every person will have the unique opportunity to get the same piece of clothing as always, but with a different symbol and, in this way, help to save animals that are at risk of extinction.

In the limited edition, the logo’s crocodile will be replaced by these animals: Sumatran tiger, black crested gibbon, Java rhino, Steller’s sea cow, among other little-known species.

The collaboration between Lacoste and IUCN will last for 3 years and, during that time, the brand plans to produce 1,775 white polo shirts, exactly the total number of animals of these species that are in danger of disappearing. Each piece will sell for $183 and the proceeds from sales will go to the organization dedicated to saving these animals.

The project was presented during the recent Fashion Week in Paris, where the brand showed its new collection full of nature motifs.

If you can’t imagine Lacoste without its well-known symbol, don’t worry: the crocodile will only give its place to other animals in classic polo shirts, remaining in all other garments of this brand.
