Who were the original members of Bronco?

A week ago ‘Bronco: the series’ was released and the first episode left us with several doubts about the beginnings of this successful northern music band, as well as its original members.

And, although many believe that Javier Villareal, Choche, Ramiro and Lupe Esparza have always been part of Bronco, the truth is that the band had several changes during its first years in the industry.

That is why in this note we will tell you who the original members were and the history of Grupo Bronco’s first album.

Original Bronco members

It all started in the mid-1960s, when José Guadalupe Esparza became interested in music and put together a small “band” with his best friends from high school.

Lupe Esparza says that, although they never played professionally, this first attempt only served them to learn to play with cardboard boxes, which was where the idea of what would become Grupo Bronco was born.

Later, Lupe was joined by Erick Garza, Javier, Salvador and Juan Manuel. Together they put together the group’s first song: “Never miss me,” a cover of Antonio Ríos.

Shortly after, Juan Manuel left to join Los Barón de Apodaca and his place was taken by Manuel Caballero. Later, Salvador, the bassist, left the group and his place was taken by José Luis, better known as Choche.

In this way the group was made up of Javier on guitar, Choche on bass, Juan Manuel on drums, Erick on keyboards and Lupe on lead vocals.

Ramiro Delgado would not join until a few years later when Erik Garza, due to health and personal problems, was forced to leave the group.

Ramiro came highly recommended by Homero Hernández, artistic director of Bronco, and also already had a career in music with the group known as “Los Cazadores.”

First Bronco album

Bronco’s first album came out of the pockets of its members, who raised money to rent a studio, as we saw in the first episode of the series.

The album consisted of only two singles and had no sleeve or cover. On side A they recorded “La Pisadita” and “Grande de Cadera” on side B.

Later they went to several radio stations in Monterrey to offer their songs but only the Amplitude Modulada station XEOK played it.

Likewise, the people who got their hands on this single threw it in the trash because they thought the group would never prosper. For this reason, today there is no record of this first album beyond the testimony of the Bronco.
