That annoying nuisance in your feet after performing aerobic exercises is more common than you think. The reason? There are several, but the most common is inflammation of the plantar fascia, tissue located on the soles of the feet. “This happens quite often when we overdo it in training”, explains José Eduardo Pompeu, fitness coordinator at Bodytech João Cachoeira, in São Paulo. “The region can also be painful and swollen due to sprains or strains of ligaments or muscles”, he adds.

To get around the annoyance, choose an appropriate shoe for the activity and put some ice in the region after finishing the workout. “It is also important to learn to respect the limits of the body”, recalls Pompeu. There’s no point in increasing the number of kilometers traveled or speed if you’re not prepared, right?

If the problem happens after modalities involving repetitions or jump variations, keep an eye on how you are performing the movement. It may be that the impact when returning to the ground is the reason for post-workout pain.

Try landing on your toes first, then your heels. Bending your knees also helps. Thus, your body absorbs the stride better and your feet thank you.
