What would our daily lives be like if these 10 superpowers were real

We live in an era of pop culture where superheroes pop up in all media. The genre, which was born in comic books, is now present in books, TV and streaming series, and especially in cinemas. Not to mention merchandising: toys, mugs, t-shirts and even kitchen utensils are sold with illustrations of our heroes.

No wonder so many people watch and get emotional about these stories and then wonder, “what if I had these powers? If I could fly like Superman, be strong like the Hulk or be the fastest person in the world like The Flash?” Well, our reality would be a little different from fiction, unfortunately.

To explain better, the awesome.club prepared this list by comparing our expectations when we dream of having superpowers with the harsh reality of the laws of Physics and Biology. Settle in and check it out below.

Super strength

Many superheroes rely on this superpower to fight crime. They break down walls, lift cars and knock out villains with just one punch. The life of a person with super strength looks very inviting.

However, the reality is a little different. If a person had super strength in real life, he would need to redouble care to perform the simplest tasks of the day. It would be difficult to have coffee without crushing the cup or lunch without bending the silverware. Not to mention the ruined dates, as simple hugs or even handshakes would break the other person’s bones.

Flight

Superman, one of the greatest superheroes in history, has the power to fly. Other superheroes, by the way, also have this superpower. We are sure that many people have already imagined how nice it would be to have this skill, especially when we are stuck in traffic and late. The feeling of freedom, the agility to move around and the wind hitting your face must be wonderful.

The fact is, if someone had the power to fly, they would hardly be able to move faster than a person running on the ground. When we walk or run, we have solid ground to propel the movement, whereas, flying, we would lack something to do so. It would be like swimming. Now, remember that Usain Bolt once ran at 44 kilometers per hour, while swimmer Michael Phelps can only reach 10 kilometers per hour.

Size Change

Imagine growing to the size of a building. Being able to pick up cars and people with just your fingertips, take much longer strides to get anywhere. It seems to be very good for those who have this power and scary for those who look from afar. Maybe you didn’t even need to do anything with the villains, just increase their size to intimidate them.

Well, in the real world this power is impossible to exist, since the laws of physics explain that you don’t create matter. So, if you were to increase in size, you would still have the same mass and weight. To be giant, heavy and strong, you would have to be very heavy and strong at full size too. The problem is that, as it grows, the ground would not support its weight and would give way under its feet. Not to mention your clothes and shoes that couldn’t handle the sudden size change!

Immortality

Immortality is a power sought by several fictional characters throughout the history of literature and movies. And in real life, today there are billionaires investing a lot of money to discover the secret to extending life expectancy and reducing the damage caused by degenerative diseases. And have you ever wondered how much knowledge you would accumulate if you were immortal?

Well, actually it wouldn’t be like that. If you can barely remember last week, imagine if you had a thousand years of history to look back on? Plus, you’d end up losing track of time and seeing all the people you know leaving, until all you’re left with is you. Immortality wouldn’t stop you from having accidents, so your body would end up covered in scars. And finally, humanity would evolve little by little, and you would end up an outdated specimen.

Super speed

The Flash, the famous DC Comics superhero, has another of the most desired superpowers by us real people. Who never imagined being able to do their activities at super speed, or being able to leave the house just five minutes before any appointment? Let’s agree that it seems like a life full of advantages, right?

Just not. Have you ever noticed how the bodywork of cars, even being metal, has small scratches caused by dust, insects and even small stones that come loose from roads? Imagine what they would do to your skin at 1,100 km/h, the speed of The Flash. We know you thought about using some protection, but nothing would protect you from bumping into walls, posts and people, as you wouldn’t be able to dodge them or stop in time. Anyone who watched The Boys knows what we’re talking about.

Invisibility

Ah, now yes, we are talking about a very useful power. Being invisible would allow us to sneak around and snoop around to see what’s going on, what people are saying about you. You could enter the cinema without paying anything. And you wouldn’t even have to worry about your appearance. It really seems like a power with no downsides.

Wrong again. To be totally invisible, you couldn’t wear makeup, clothes and accessories. Imagine going out on the street like that on a cold day? By the way, you couldn’t take a cell phone, wallet or watch, because people would see all these as objects floating in the air. Any dirt that fell on his body would give away his position, even the soles of his feet getting dirty on the floor. And since the light could not reflect off your retina, you would be completely blind.

telekinesis

Telekinesis is a fictional power that allows you to move objects with just the “force” of the mind. It’s the power of Eleven from the Stranger Things series and the Jedi from the Star Wars movies. A power that would be very useful to the laziest. Imagine being able to wash all the dishes without leaving the couch and without touching the cold water. Or, like Eleven, toss a car away.

The problem is that our brain doesn’t generate enough energy to make things move with just the power of thought. We would have to eat a huge amount of food to have the energy for it. And even if we had energy, we would have to put our brains to the object you were going to move. Not practical, is it? Furthermore, Newton’s third law says that Eleven, when he threw the car away, would be thrown with equal force in the opposite direction. For every action, a reaction.

Elasticity

One of the most brilliant things that the writers of the animation The Incredibles did was give Helena Pêra, the Elasti-Woman, elastic powers. After all, who wouldn’t give anything to be able to stretch almost infinitely, and hold three kids at once or clean more than one room at the same time? And, of course, this superpower would be useful not only for cleaning, but also for, for example, catching a coin that fell and rolled under a refrigerator.

But at this point, you shouldn’t even be deluding yourself anymore, right? It’s good. You could even have an elastic body, but your five liters of blood would remain liquid and would have difficulty circulating through such a long body. Soon, your hands would be pale, purple, and numb from lack of circulation. Another problem would be the stretch marks. Who is a mother, has had her skin stretched and knows the consequences. Not to mention that, on hot days, her skin would be pretty sticky. yuck!

Intangibility

Just learning to say that word without getting it wrong the first time is already a superpower, but imagine being able to leave your body intangible and walk through walls and objects? That’s the power of Kitty Pride, the Shadowcat of the X-Men. She can make the entire body intangible, or just a part of it, and even make objects and other people intangible, just by touching them. A doctor would give anything for that power.

Intangibility is tempting. But it would take a lot of control for you to activate your power without letting your clothes go through your body and fall off! And keep in mind that if you’re going through something really thick, you won’t have air in there to breathe. But the worst we have not yet said. Even intangible, the gravitational force would continue to act on his body, so he would be drawn to the Earth’s core.

super hearing

Another power much desired by curious people, super-hearing is mostly found in Superman, who can hear cries for help from miles away. You could hear conversations from afar, even if whispered. Another hero who has super sharp hearing is Daredevil, who is blind and locates himself through the reverberations of sounds in the environment.

However, our anatomy only allows us to hear a certain frequency of sounds. To hear at different frequencies, we would need to make anatomical changes inspired by animals. It would be necessary to have huge ears, like those of the desert fox, and/or asymmetrical like those of some species of owl. Now, if you wanted to locate yourself by sound, like Daredevil, you would need to walk around giving little squeals and wait for the sounds to reflect back to you.

We hope we haven’t destroyed your dreams of having superpowers. Heroes are there to inspire us to be better humans, even if it brings some unpleasant situations. Now, we would like to know which superpower you would like to have. Tell us in the comments!
