What is energy psychology?

There are multiple therapeutic techniques that aim to help with change, improvement and well-being. Is energy therapy a potential tool?

Energy psychology is a relatively new approach that combines Eastern mind-body approaches with ideas from Western psychology and psychotherapy.

Practitioners of this type of psychology consider that doing tapping at certain points on the body, while thinking about an anxiety-producing event, can improve conditions such as anxiety disorders, phobias and post-traumatic stress disorder.

Although it is true that this is a therapy that is controversial and questioned, there is already some research that sheds light and ensures that it is a potentially promising treatment.

Energy psychology techniques were first popularized in the early 1980s by Roger Callahan under the name TFT Mind Field Therapy. On the other hand, David Feinstein has developed an energy psychology program that provides the necessary training, even so that patients themselves can use it at home.

“Your search is nothing more than the imperative need of your being to return to its original state: the light.”

What types of energy psychology exist?

There are several different types of treatments that are part of energy psychology. Some of these are the following:

Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT)

In this energetic psychological technique anxiety-producing memories combine with tapping on specific points on the body, along with the use of affirmations spoken This process can be performed by a trained therapist or can be done by the patient themselves at home.

A study published in the scientific journal ScientDirect verified how its effects produced a positive effect on many of the participants in treatment for depression.

Thought Field Therapy (TFT)

This type of energy psychology It involves touching different areas of the body in specific sequences. These are determined using different sequences (algorithms) that are intended to address different problems.

Like EFT, Thought Field Therapy involves matching this tapping with a painful, difficult or traumatic memory. These sequences can be performed by a trained therapist, but you can also learn to do this treatment at home.

Tapas Flemming or Tapas Acupressure Technique (TAT)

This type was developed by Dr. Tapas Fleming in 1993, who began pressing certain points on the head and face with her fingers. By applying this pressure, people progress through a series of thoughts focused on their current problems, the sources of them, positive images, and finally, forgiveness and healing.

Like the other forms of energy psychology, this type can be administered by a trained professional or practiced at home.

How can energy psychology help you?

While more development and studies are still needed on the topic, this approach has been used to treat a number of different conditions. Among those being explored are anxiety, chronic pain, depression, phobias, stress and trauma.

Additionally, a 2017 study compared the effectiveness of mind field therapy (TFT) with cognitive behavioral therapy for the treatment of agoraphobia. The results showed that both types of therapy were equally effective in reducing their symptoms.

In this type of therapy, the usefulness it has to address other problems such as pain, worries, irritability, and relationship problems. Some of his techniques are relatively easy to learn, so they can be practiced and taught by a wide variety of professionals in the health field, including doctors, psychologists, etc.

Despite all this, it is important to keep in mind that this is not a type of therapy suitable for everyone, since the mechanisms by which this therapy works are not easy to fully understand.

A field in exploration

Proponents of energy psychology suggest that do tapping At the different acupuncture points they stimulate the “mechanoreceptors”. These are nerve endings sensitive to touch, sensory receptors that are located throughout the skin and, above all, in the ear; If it is stimulated, in theory, the body’s energy channels and fields are normalized.

Different types of energy work are becoming more popular among holistic health professionals. It is true that not much is still understood about the energy fields that surround the human body, so it may be that the techniques work, but they do so for reasons that have nothing to do with the human energy field.

Either way, it is a tool to keep in mind in case other therapies do not work as planned. Energy psychology is a potentially promising field of exploration that can help heal the great complexities of the human mind.
