The “bunny lines”, or “rabbit lines”, are small slightly diagonal wrinkles on both sides of the nose, which begin at the inner corner of the eye. These are frown lines that appear when people smile or speak. The constant contraction of the nasal muscle leaves marks that, over time, deepen and become permanent, regardless of active expression. In addition to natural aging, a common cause of bunny lines is the repeated use of Botox in the glabella – the area between the eyebrows – and the forehead region. The muscles on either side of the nose become hyperactive with smiling to compensate for the lack of movement in the forehead and around the eyes. That is, too many injectables in the forehead and between the eyebrows cause these muscles to go out of commission, yet other muscles in the face work overtime to keep you smiling. This extra workload for the other muscles around your nose is why you might see bunny lines.

Wrinkles are part of natural aging, but good habits can help prevent this problem, especially with a healthier diet, quitting smoking and creating a skin care routine. Once we have already noticed the expression line, the sooner we insert a treatment, the better. The most effective treatment is the application of botulinum toxin. The application is quite simple. We mark the place, and make a small point on each side of the nose. Results are noticed after three days, and continue to improve over the next few days. They usually last four to five months. The treatment is safe, but has some contraindications: in patients with impaired immunity (use of immunosuppressants, chemotherapy, etc.) the application of botulinum toxin is contraindicated, as it is a toxin and the lack of defense of the body can be harmful . Carriers of diseases in which there is alteration in the functioning of the musculature, such as myasthenia gravis, for example, should also be avoided, as well as pregnant women, since, in this case, there is no confirmation whether or not the procedure is safe.
