What I Learned After I Started Drinking Two Liters of Water Every Day

The truth is that I’ve always been very relaxed in matters involving health. And, no, I’m not proud of it one bit, but, you know, change is never easy🇧🇷 However, in 2016, I decided to do something different and abandon some bad habits. Making healthier choices, both for the mind and, obviously, for my body.

And you know that thing your mother always said about drinking two liters of water a day? It didn’t get out of her head, no. It’s science that claims! And, well, it wasn’t something I did. No more! I proposed the challenge of trying to regulate myself and for a whole week to drink this liquid without taste, but essential for life. Here are my impressions!

It’s all a matter of habit.

The first day was the hardest and, truth be told, I couldn’t drink the two liters of water I had promised. Half of me knew it was the right thing to do, but the other half wouldn’t let me. #taurino But, after overcoming the initial resistance, I started to follow the schedule exactly. And, better: not to forget, I put a bottle of water next to my desk in the newsroom. So, there would be no excuse for not drinking water. And would you believe it, it worked!? Drinking water, just like exercising, maintaining a daily beauty routine or becoming a regular reader depends a lot on the first step. And so, kind of suddenly, you get used to this new – and healthy – habit.

Yes, your skin looks great.

Just imagine a person who didn’t drink any water? It was me. My skin isn’t horrible, but it’s not a great example either, after all, I’ve never been very strict there. At the most, I splashed some thermal water after the bath. Creams and moisturizers? Only when I remembered (or when laziness allowed!). Believe it or not, that has changed. I don’t know what happened, but after deciding to drink water, I felt more encouraged to take better care of my face and, yes, it sounds like a lie, but within a week I could see results. My skin felt firmer, more hydrated, and those blackheads and blackheads kind of gave me a break. So it is.

Your stamina increases.

By some kind of cosmic coincidence the ~experiment~ was going to cross Carnival. And, even with my plans that included going every day of the party to the blocks that invaded SĂŁo Paulo, I had to continue my routine of drinking water. And, look, it was the best thing I could have done. Between one beer and another, between one march and another, there it was, the water bottle! I felt more ready for the marathon, I found that my stamina increased a lot, and the best part: zero hangovers the next day. The balance of the street Carnival? Success!

And your spirits are high.

I’ve been promising myself for months to go for a run every day. It’s not a question of having the ~summer body~, but having a healthier life. And I don’t know what happened, but the same day I started drinking water, I decided to take courage and put on my running shoes. And it was like that the next day too. And the next. And the next. When I saw it, I had been out running all week. And not only that: I changed my diet a lot. Goodbye, heaps of industrialized products. Hello fruits and vegetables! Yeah, thanks, water!

And, of course, the countless trips to the bathroom.

That’s the annoying part and it’s inevitable: you’re going to go to the bathroom A LOT MORE. And, no, there’s nothing wrong with that. But it’s good to keep an eye on the color of your pee! If it is completely transparent it means that, perhaps, the consumption of H2O is higher than what your body really needs. Learn more about it here. The ideal thing is for it to come out slightly yellow.

Basically, you only win by drinking water right.

More hydration, more energy, better skin, a better mood… Drinking water is too much and it only brought me good things. Obviously, what I went through has no scientific value, but all the improvements I felt are undeniable. So, if you’re the type that doesn’t like water or can’t drink it regularly, give it a chance. Can be the start some healthier habits, as it was for me. It is definitely the experience of a week that I will take with me for a lifetime.
