What food looks like at −70°C (Spoiler: it’s impossible to eat)

Cyprien Verseux is an astrobiologist working at Concordia Station in Antarctica. He has a blog about life in extreme conditions, in addition to sharing photos of his daily work on twitter🇧🇷 His photos show how familiar foods look different when subjected to a temperature of minus 70°C.

For the awesome.club, Cyprien had a great idea: it’s one thing to know that Antarctica is very cold, and quite another to see what the weather can do to ordinary things. Are you ready to be surprised?

The raclette cheese did not stay melted for a long time

The spaghetti and the fork became one

You can’t use honey to grease the bread either.

The eggs don’t even make it to the skillet

But they create a kind of interesting installation in front of the station

This chocolate cream bread can even be used as a hammer

This is what happens when you throw away hot water from a thermos.

And this is the author of the photos

Obviously, Cyprien doesn’t just take pictures of food.

Bonus: dinner in celebration of Cosmonautics Day at “Concordia”. The theme of the decoration was the Russian Yuri Gagarin, the first man to go to Space

What other quirks of life in Antarctica do you think Cyprien should photograph? Comment!
