What changed in my life when I started waking up at 5:30 am daily

“According to statistics, in the United States, a person wakes up between 6:00 and 7:30 on average. I believe that I was not too far from this statistic, as I always got up at 7:45 to go to work at 8:00, drinking coffee along the way . Then, I had a long and boring trip to work, where I work from 9 am. After work, I was always tired, and I just wanted to get home and go to bed. That’s why my life was exactly like this: nothing gym, meditation or schedules, just a confused mind and a feeling of constant exhaustion. Is this familiar to you? If so, you are not the only one, and it was just what I experienced every day.

One day, I decided to change my life completely and do an experiment for a month: I started getting up at 5:30 am every day. The result was incredible!

I would like to share, exclusively for the awesome.club, my life experience as an early riser and all the benefits that this habit provides. Thus, my tips can also help those who suffer from a lack of daily energy, as I did.

8. I became more productive

The most successful people get up early: listened to it all the time. Steve Jobs used to wake up around 5:30 in the morning and save enough extra time for his dedication with Apple. There are countless other examples that are already very well known. It never occurred to me that I might be one of them. I enjoyed being a night person and felt proud that I was able to stick to one or 2 plans a week. I didn’t think it could be so much more…

When I started the experiment, I realized that mornings were the most productive time of day for me. Now, I wake up with a clear mind, a well-rested body and I can focus on important tasks and set goals for the day ahead. Early in the morning, I check my emails and Facebook. I can do all this while my family members are still in bed in deep sleep.

Getting up at 5:30 am every day much more time to do these things. I do so many tasks before starting work in the morning that when I get home in the evening, I don’t have any pending tasks and I can spend more time with my family.

Going from being a night owl to an early riser has produced a significant increase in productivity for me, both in my professional and personal life.

7. I have time for myself

I used to start the day in a hurry, because I arrived late for work and rushing to organize everything. But, in general, it was late. He would rush in, disheveled, sweating and already irritated. As soon as he walked in, he already arrived bothering everyone, he was always in a bad mood. This is definitely not the best way to start the day.

Now, I have more than 2 hours to prepare for work. And during that time, not only do I get organized, I sometimes manage to enjoy a hot cup of freshly brewed coffee or read a few pages of my favorite book. Waking up early and not feeling pressured allows me to have a lighter start to the day, everything flows better. Have you tried arriving calmly at work? A great feeling! Can you imagine doing this every day, and with a rested mind? It’s just a matter of changing habits, believe me.

6. I developed new habits

Developing new habits is crucial to evolving each day, and morning overtime is the perfect time to do this. Making your own morning ritual, that is, planning a list of tasks to do every day, in the same order, can help you adopt new habits naturally, not forced.

For example, my day starts with a shower, brushing my teeth, shaving and getting ready to go out. Then, I have a hot drink and go to my office where I do some reading, make plans for the day, among other activities. The same tasks must be performed in the same way every day, including weekends.

The morning ritual is much more than a way to organize your daily routine. It helps us choose new habits in addition to the common tasks we already do regularly.

5. I’m getting in shape

When you’re up early, the extra time allows for more peace of mind to get some physical exercise in before exhausting your brain at work: you can hit the gym or just go for a walk and simple stretches, nothing too extreme.

Of course, there are other times for physical exercise other than the early hours of the morning. But I always ended up canceling the gym after work due to occasional activities like dinners or birthdays. Morning exercise, on the other hand, can never be cancelled. Thanks to the extra time I gained, I started walking for 30 minutes every morning and lost approximately 2 kilos after a month. And I don’t intend to stop!

4. I enjoy the silence

This is my favorite part of getting up early: no screaming kids or crying babies, no horns or televisions blaring. The first hours of the day are really quiet. Nothing distracts me from important tasks, I can organize my thoughts, plan ahead for the day’s tasks, and have sufficient concentration on what I’m doing.

Jeremy Korsta former Microsoft general manager and successful entrepreneur, wakes up between 3:00 and 4:00 am for 2 reasons: clarity of thoughts and tranquility. During the next hours of the morning, he usually does all his work, which requires greater concentration, without worries or distractions.

As Pascal once said: “Man’s unhappiness is based on one thing: when he is unable to be silent in his room”🇧🇷 I firmly believe that it is possible to find peace and joy in the early morning, in silence and peace.

3. I gain time in an unexpected way

No one likes stressful rush hour traffic. Starting your day earlier will also improve this part of your life. If you need to commute long distances to get to work, college or some other location on a daily basis, it will be more relaxed if you leave earlier and take the fastest transit time. if you drive, can significantly reduce commuting time. Or, better yet, you can start riding a bikeas I did in my experiment.

2. I am eating healthier

We’ve all heard the saying that breakfast it is the most important meal of the day. According to studies, we should consume between 15% and 25% of our daily food in a morning meal. Without breakfast, we are usually so hungry at lunchtime that we end up eating a lot of unhealthy food.

Before my experience, when I was always late waking up, I had to be somewhere else immediately, which is why I never had breakfast. But now I don’t have to rush out, and I actually have time not only to make my coffee, but to sit and enjoy it quietly. I can assure you that it is much better than buying something on the way to work or directly at the place where you work.

1. I improved the quality of my rest

People who sleep a lot tend to be very light sleepers, whereas early risers usually have set schedules. Not having an established sleep routine can have negative consequences for your health, such as high cholesterol, obesity, etc.

During the month of my experience, I realized that it is not necessary to stay in bed for 10-12 hours to get enough sleep as I used to. Waking up at 5:30 am, I feel well rested and full of energy to start the new day. A regular schedule really improves the quality of sleep and brings a great sense of well-being.

Bonus: How to Be an Early Bird

I’ve put together some advice that will help you transform from a night person to an early riser:

Leave the curtain open before going to sleep. In the morning, you are forced to wake up when the first rays of sunlight enter your room. Set a time when you turn off as many electronic devices as possible. According to some studies, these devices make it difficult for you to sleep because their light slows down the production of melatonin, the hormone that controls your sleep cycles. Therefore, it is not a bad idea to turn off your cell phone, tablet and television an hour before going to sleep if you want to improve the quality of your sleep. Sleep early. If you decide to get up 2 hours earlier, you should also go to bed at least 2 hours earlier than usual. Only then will you get enough sleep. Is it difficult to fall asleep? Read or listen to an audiobook for a few minutes; both activities make me fall asleep easily. Place the alarm away from your bed. If it’s right next to you, you’ll turn it off and go back to sleep. But if it’s out of your reach, it won’t be easy to stay asleep. By the time you get up, you’ll be more awake. Leave the room quickly. Simply start doing your morning ritual as soon as possible: go to the bathroom and brush your teeth. When you do this, you are awake enough to start your day. Make plans. Having a plan of action for the mornings is very important. This reason will motivate you to lift without problems. Visualize your goals. Comedian Jerry Seinfeld uses a system to force himself to write his jokes. He has a big wall calendar and for every day he writes new material he puts a big red “X” on it. His goal is to create an unbroken chain of these brands for as long as possible. This is a great way to build a new lifestyle because it will give you a visual record of your progress and ultimately your success. Reward yourself. You should find something that you really enjoy and make it part of your morning routine. For me, it’s having a cup of herbal tea or reading a good book. The reward could be a delicious breakfast, watching the sunrise or meditating: anything that is pleasurable.”

How’s your routine? Do you usually get up early, or do you leave to jump out of bed at the last minute of your nap? Tell us about your schedule in the comments below!
