Up to what age is considered a teenager nowadays?

Perhaps adolescence is one of the most interesting and complicated stages of every person. Until recently, this period was believed to end at age 19. However, recent research, published in The Lancet, ensures that, for most young people, entry into adulthood takes place much later.

“In the modern world, young people spend more time on their education, marry and have children at an older age.” The transition stage from childhood to adulthood takes longer than before, so the age 10 to 24 best describes this period, given the development of modern teenagers.”

Despite As modern teens begin to mature much earlier than previous generations (roughly around age 10, as opposed to age 14 in the past), this stage lasts longer.

The authors of the research paid attention to the fact that the brain continues to develop well after the age of 20 and in many people the wisdom teeth do not come out until the age of 25. Thus, the body undergoes biological changes from an early age, but the entire process occurs at a slower pace.

Of course there is also the problem of young people’s unwillingness to mature and take responsibility for their lives. Sociologist Jan Macvarish believes that maturity is to a lesser extent related to biological processes in the body and is more dependent on social patterns. She maintains that it is very childish to try to find a vocation after the age of 20 and thinks that it doesn’t take more time for a person to feel fulfilled.

Meanwhile, the Australian scientists who carried out this research believe there is no need to intervene in the natural process of maturity development. According to them, society should support young people. They also expressed the idea that “prolonging” adolescence in relation to social policy would help protect the rights of young people and better guide them into adulthood.
