“True priorities”, a text that explains what really matters

A guy came to his friend’s house and sat on her bed. To put it in context: the man had hitchhiked and was wearing worn-out jeans that hadn’t been washed in a long time.

The woman was left screaming like a wounded bird.

At first, he didn’t understand what he did wrong, because they had a good relationship at first. After discovering the reason for such a reaction, he exclaimed: “For you, things are more important than people!”

Another man decided to lend a hand to his friend who was doing home renovations and paint her windows. He hadn’t thought of putting, for example, some newspapers to protect the floor from paint, nor had he heard of masking tape. Obviously, the owner was dissatisfied with the colored marks on the glass and the smudged floor.

The guy was hurt: he did a favor and worked hard, but heard only the woman mumbling about the mess, instead of thanking him for the work. That is, she is also someone who cares more about things than people.

The third man also went to visit and threw his heavy suitcase, with a hammer or a pick he was taking from work, on an antique table, black lacquer with sophisticated carving.

The owner was not at all happy with her attitude. It seems that she also values things more than people.

A wife was giving her husband a hard time because he had helped push a stranger’s car, stuck in the mud, but without taking off his cashmere overcoat. The woman was not able to understand her partner’s act. She also doesn’t know how to set priorities the right way.taking care of things and not giving a damn about people.

When it was time to change clothes, a 16-year-old teenager dropped all the clothes she was wearing on the floor (she had seen a similar scene in a movie and found it very interesting). Disappointed, her mother picked up a black silk blouse from the dusty floor. She was shown to be indifferent to existential crises and pathological preoccupation with objects. Obviously things are more important to her than people.

“They are just objects”, say some. “You can’t be that attached to things.”

No, dear ones, all these “things” are not just material possessions. Each of them is worth more than your own life. I mean, much more than you can imagine.

For example, the character at the beginning of the text sat in the first place he found. But afterwards, the owner probably had to wash the bedding, let it dry, and put on another clean piece of clothing. She intended to spend the rest of the afternoon reading a book, but the guy “gave as a gift” a mess and a headache that will cost his strength and his time.

It took the second guy about an hour to paint the windows, but he made the owner spend six hours removing the paint from the windows and walls afterward, which is no mean feat. In the end, those who don’t get in the way help most.

The man who ruined the table’s old covering cannot even imagine how much that piece of furniture was worth, how much it costs now, all scratched up, and how much its restoration will cost. He practically took the owner’s money. And I’m not even going to say that the table can be an heirloom or have sentimental value.

The husband who ended up with the cashmere overcoat threw away the money spent on the garment. This amount could have been used to help his wife, but after that he would have had to buy a new coat. That is, his wife was harmed again at the expense of an outfit.

I suppose the mother who had to pick up her daughter’s clothes from the dirty floor bought the items at great expense. She had worked hard to get them and had even paid for them with a portion of her time. But now, she will have to sacrifice again to fix everything.

There is an old song that tells about a vulgar, empty and materialistic woman, who seems ridiculous from the perspective of others – who think more about people and care about others.

No, dear ones. Those who don’t value things don’t value people. It is the law of human nature.
