7 Calculus Tricks That Will Turn Your Kid Into a Math Guru

Addition, subtraction, multiplication and division are words that make us travel back in time and take us straight to school math classes. Although nowadays we don’t have to face the same problems and the same bills as before, adult life also brings many situations that need bills and solutions. To make life easier for our children and to make this whole process more involved, there are some tricks that can help. And we’re not talking about “my dog ate my homework”.

Instead, we awesome.club, we bring you some math secrets that will help your child’s learning. Before starting, take a piece of paper and do it yourself.

1. Multiplying by 9 using your hands

Put your hands in front of you and consider that each finger has its own number.

As an example, let’s assume you need to figure out what 4×9 is. Find the number 4 and bend the corresponding finger, as in the picture.

Now count all the fingers to the left of the bent finger and all the fingers to the right. There are 3 fingers on the left and 6 fingers on the right.

Put these 2 numbers together to find the result of multiplication: 36.

2. Multiplication of 3-digit numbers

As an example, let’s assume you need to figure out what 652×6 is. Make a drawing with the numbers, as in the picture above.

Multiply each digit by 6 and enter the results in the table.

6×6 = 36

5×6 = 30

2×6 = 12

3. Multiplication of large numbers

Let’s imagine that you need to solve the following equation: 7×531. It is much easier if you divide the large number into rounded numbers (10 and 100). The smaller, the easier the multiplication.

4. Multiply by 12

Multiply the original number by 10 and add the same number twice more to get the answer to the equation.

5. The calculation of 15%

If you’re trying to figure out what 15% of a number is, start by finding 10%. Let’s use the number 400 as an example. Calculate 10% of this value (as done in the image). Divide that number by 2 and add the 2 results. The answer, therefore, is 60 (15% of 400).

6. Adding 3-digit numbers

3-digit numbers are easier to calculate when they are divided into parts. Add the hundreds and tens separately, then add the rest. The calculation is much easier.

7. Multiplying by 9

If you need to multiply by 9, start by multiplying by 10. After that, subtract the original number from the result and get the correct answer.
