Training and menstruation: we tested 3 substitutes for the common pad –

Forget the horror movie they created in our heads about menstruation. Women’s natural cycles shouldn’t be considered taboo – let alone be feared by us.

the sports classic

“I was the first Brazilian to try out the new Intimus Sport, a line of thinner and more malleable pads. I tested two different models. I ran 10 km in the Traditional version, which turned out to be super comfortable for training: it doesn’t press against tight shorts and is wide enough to prevent leaks during squats and sit-ups. However, the Daily Protector version came out of place, which got the panties dirty – it would be better if it had tabs.”

The sustainable

“I’ve been using the menstrual cup for a few years: I put the cup in the morning at home (it’s safer and more practical, since sometimes you come into contact with blood when inserting it) and spend the whole day with it. You can swim and wear leggings comfortably, because there is only a very small stem sticking out (you can cut it if you want). I do yoga, do functional and even go for a run and feel protected – in fact, I forget that I have my period. At first, it seems difficult to adapt to it, but today I don’t change it for anything.”

the lingerie type

“Seen from afar, Pantys (models starting at R$75) look like panties, but have a technological layer that retains menstruation. I went to the safe bike class because the washable piece adapted to the body like normal lingerie, it didn’t leak and, because it has a large, soft lining, it even relieved the pressure that the saddle puts on the butt. However, if you are going to work out at night, I advise you to wear it close to training time: when I spent the whole day with it, I gave up the sweat session for fear of someone smelling an unpleasant smell.”
