The toning shampoo is a great alternative for those who want to transform the look. It changes the color of the hair without damaging it as much, which usually happens when we use dyes or bleaching products.
This type of shampoo enhances the tones and color of the hair, makes it shinier and is less aggressive. In addition, it does not harm other chemicals that already exist in the wires.
To explain to us how toning shampoos work and for whom they are recommended, we consulted hairdresser Edson Idogawa. Check out:
How do toning shampoos work?
Toning shampoos have a lower ammonia concentration than conventional dyes, therefore, they damage the hair less when used.
According to Edson, the toning shampoo “changes the color of the hair and darkens both natural light hair and artificially colored hair.” The shades provided by this type of shampoo are due to the natural extracts that act on the hair, depositing a film of colored pigments around the hair shaft and coloring without harming the hair structure.
According to the specialist, there are some shades of this type of product that have the power of lightening, but only on natural hair. The hairdresser warns, however, that “to lighten with the toning shampoo, it is necessary to mix hydrogen peroxide to activate the product, and the hair does not lighten more than two tones.”
As this product does not open the hair cuticle to deposit the color, the product’s duration time is shorter compared to conventional dyes. The color obtained with the product generally lasts about 10 to 15 washes.
Who is it suitable for and when should I use it?
According to Edson, toning shampoos are recommended for those who want to keep the color alive without going through the dye. Women who want to hide the first gray hairs can also bet on the product, as it darkens the hair, but saves it from a permanent dye.
This type of shampoo is also highly recommended for those who have other types of chemistry in their hair, as it does not harm the strands and revives the color of dyed and/or faded hair over time.
For redheads, toning shampoos usually contain pigments of coppery or red tones, maintaining the color. The shampoos for blondes, take bluish or violet tones to neutralize the orange tones that appear in the wires.
