Three cleaning vinegars that we can use to scrub or even wash clothes

Green cleaning, with a view to saving money and respecting the environment, is increasingly common. Instead of the usual detergents, people are increasingly looking for alternative solutions, with natural and cheap products that we may already have in our pantry or refrigerator.

One of the most used, often in combination with the ever-present baking soda, is vinegar, which is also frequently used in the washing machine to wash clothes.

However, there are at least three useful types and it is not always easy to understand which one to use, for what and how. In today's article we will try to shed some light on the subject, learning how to easily juggle white wine vinegar, apple cider vinegar and alcohol vinegar.

When we talk about vinegar for cleaning, we use a very common name that, in reality, would indicate at least 3 more specific types of products. For the home, in fact, we can use:

white wine vinegar that would be derived from the fermentation of wine; apple cider vinegar that would be derived from the fermentation of cider and apple must; alcohol vinegar, a solution of water and acetic acid.

For more common cleaning tasks, such as descaling and whitening the toilet or other toilets, cleaning the taps, the oven or the windows, white wine vinegar can be used. We must always dilute it in water, even distilled, in a proportion of 1 to 3, that is, one part vinegar to 3 parts water.

To reduce its pungent odor, we can add a few drops of essential oil such as eucalyptus or lemon. In addition, this same type of vinegar can also be used in the washing machine for clothes instead of the usual fabric softener.

Apple vinager

This second type of vinegar, which also has a somewhat milder smell, would be suitable as a degreaser and anti-odor.

Diluting it in water, this time also in a proportion of 1 to 2 (one part vinegar to two parts water), we could use it, for example, to:

clean certain fabrics such as curtains or carpets; clean silverware; remove the most difficult grease stains; remove mold stains.

Alcohol vinegar

Finally, this third type of vinegar would have a powerful anti-limescale, sanitizing and degreasing action.

Again, it must be diluted with water in a ratio of 1 to 3.

Like white wine vinegar and unlike apple cider vinegar, spirit vinegar can be used in the washing machine to wash clothes.

In this case, its action would be whitening and, therefore, it would be especially indicated for white garments that have lost whiteness or turned yellow.

What cannot be washed with this product

So, here is the type of vinegar to use for cleaning and in the washing machine. Finally, remember that regardless of type, vinegar should not be used on certain materials such as wood, marble, other natural stones, and cast iron.

The suggestion, however, is to always be careful and first test the effect of the substance in a corner of the area you intend to clean.
