Have you heard of Akinator? He is a virtual genius, who promises to “read the minds” of internet users and guess real or fictional characters by asking a few questions. Created in 2007 by French programmers, the game impresses with its accuracy — and the trick remains a mystery.

Akinator was created in 2007 and since then technology has been perfecting it. It works as follows:

First, enter this site and think of any character or personality, whether real or fictional. It can be a Brazilian singer, a foreign youtuber, a cartoon character… Anything goes! Then click on “Play”. Then the genie will do up to 25 questions about your character’s characteristics. And you must answer with the options: “Yes”, “No”, “I don’t know”, “Probably yes” or “Probably not”. Remember that you must answer the questions as accurately as possible for the game to work.

The French company Elokence, which created Akinator, says it “guess thoughts” based on a program called Limule, whose algorithm is original. “How it was created is our little secret,” say the developers.

However, it doesn’t take a genius to understand that the basis of the algorithm is related to the decision tree🇧🇷 The method starts from a initial question and discovers the solution by asking a series of questions with objective answers. In this way, the tree branches out and chooses a “path” until it reaches the final answer.

Intuitively, we use this feature to make everyday decisions.

Returning to the case of Akinator. If the genius asks “is the character Brazilian?” and the answer is “yes”, it eliminates all foreign options. If you ask yourself “does he make a living from music?” and the answer is “no”, the genius discards all musicians options.

It is worth mentioning that Akinator works with a database gigantic, which is constantly updated. That’s why he “guess” the character so easily.

Akinator is a fever among youtubers, who try to “beat” it at any cost. Did You Know? and Saiko Joga tried to challenge the genie, but to no avail. YouTuber Felipe Neto managed to beat Akinator on the third attempt. But before that, he was impressed by the skills of the virtual genius.

O awesome.club also wanted to join in the fun and decided to test the genius. The result? Out of 10 characters, he managed to guess 9 — from Keanu Reeves to Patrick Estrela (from the SpongeBob cartoon), through Slime Sam Sapeca and Joey Tribianni.

The only character Akinator missed was Summer, from the movie (500) Days with Her. In fact, he thought the correct answer would be Jenna Rink from Suddenly 30. Just a little wrong, huh?
