There are people who don’t understand that life doesn’t revolve around them.

There are people who seem not to know that the earth revolves around the sun, not around them. They do not understand that life does not revolve around them, that they are not the navel of the world or the people around them. That is why they proclaim themselves infallible, generating with their behavior a very strong social rejection.

As a consequence, they maintain egocentric behaviors and fill our ears with messages and behaviors that scream for attention. Screams that are so deafening that they easily saturate and exhaust us.

Dealing with a person who has egocentric behaviors is stressful for multiple reasons. Let’s analyze some of them below…

Egocentrism, excessive worship of the self

Believing yourself to be the center of the world and feeling more important than others is disastrous for the good evolution of our social relationships. We do not like anyone trying to impose their opinions, thoughts and interests; In fact, with reason and good judgment, a person who does not believe himself to be better than others tries to reach a balance that guarantees the common good.

Arrogance does not know that the well-being of others is as indispensable as that of oneself. They, self-centered people, are sure that they are special; What’s more, your personality may even be charming on certain occasions.

However, when something does not take the desired path, then they become ogres, despots who only want to get their way even if to do so they have to take advantage of and manipulate the people around them.

They may hide behind that typical phrase of “I have a lot of character” or another variant of the style a “I have no flaws, we just don’t fit in.”. Surely many of us will think of people who at some point have accompanied us or accompany us.

They promote themselves and consider themselves special and infallible, superior to others. This, without a doubt, has the consequence of creating problems when it comes to making friends and maintaining them, since no one benefits from being next to people who only manage to think about themselves.

However, self-esteem has nothing to do with egocentrism: Self-esteem is a healthy and tolerant wanting, egocentrism is an empty, thoughtless, excessive and intolerant wanting.

Self-centered people do not really love themselves but use the shield of proclaiming their excess of self-love as a way to distort the reality of the negative self-concept that they really hide. That is the reason why they need to feel both flattered and admired.

I was walking with my father when he stopped at a bend and after a short silence he asked me:

-Besides the birds singing, do you hear anything else?

I strained my ears and a few seconds later I responded:

-I’m hearing the noise of a cart.

“That’s it,” my father said. It’s an empty cart.

-How do you know it’s an empty cart, if we haven’t seen it yet? – I asked my father.

-It is very easy to know when a cart is empty, because of the noise. “The emptier the cart, the louder the noise it makes,” he replied.

I became an adult and to this day when I see a person talking too much, interrupting everyone’s conversation, being inappropriate or violent, showing off what they have, being arrogant and putting people down, I have the impression of hearing the voice of my father saying:

“The emptier the cart is, the louder the noise it makes.”

The modesty It consists of keeping silent about our virtues and allowing others to discover them. And remember that there are people so poor that the only thing they have is money. And no one is emptier than he who is full of himself.

Types of egocentrism or types of empty carts

From history and popular culture we can extract several types of people who exalt themselves excessively:

Stars: They are those people who seek admiration and contemplation.Nero: They are those people who long to dominate and subdue, that is, to highlight their power through the maxim “never trust anyone.”Cinderella: They are the victimizers who make their “continuous suffering” a weapon to get the attention of others.Solitaire or tortoise: He basically makes his world his place of reproach and criticism, believing that no one deserves anything more than him.

Nevertheless, There are as many types of egocentrism as there are people who sin from it. Many of us will or have already done it at some point in our lives. Above all, it is essential to raise awareness and put aside selfish behaviors, since they do enormous harm to both others and ourselves.

The important thing is not to give credit and attention to egotistical behaviors.because by doing so we will only contribute to these people continuing to consider themselves the navel of the world and, as we already know, the center of the universe is not a place that is determined by anyone.
