The time has come to start thinking about me

On many occasions, concern and care for others prevails on the list of priorities over satisfying one’s own needs. In this article we talk about this wrong ordering and its consequences.

“It is time to start thinking about myself, to take care of myself with the same dedication that I do with others.” In this sense, frequently We are immersed in meeting the needs of others, caring for and ensuring the well-being of our loved ones.. Sometimes, our concern to protect and help the people around us is such that we overlook our own needs.

In someway, From childhood, they instill in us the importance of helping others., to look out for others: “you have to share”, “do everything in your power to help”, “don’t be selfish…”. They are messages that invite us to constantly think about the well-being of the people around us, It seems that doing the opposite transforms us into selfish people, “I am bad if I don’t think about others, if I don’t give them priority in the decisions I make.”

Caring can be a sign of love towards the people we love and it is often valued like this: “he loves me and protects me”, “If you help me, it shows me that you care.” In these lines we do not intend to despise the value of the dedication and care that people can provide to each other, since it is true that it covers many needs.

Practicing care for others and care for oneself is, with great probability, compatible and beneficial for all human beings.

Start thinking about myself without stopping thinking about others

Sometimes we make the mistake of thinking that it is more necessary to meet external demands (the needs of others) to attend to the needs that our interior demands, which are equally important. We tend to confuse self-care with selfishness, in such a way that “if I think about myself, I am selfish.” This belief means that we probably focus on caring instead of taking care of ourselves.

Prioritize your own needs

One way to think about yourself is to take more care of your needs through healthy activities, such as good nutrition, physical exercise, social life, pleasant leisure activities… Dedicate yourself as much time as you need, since self-love and self-care is not selfishness, It is a health exercise for one’s own physical, emotional and mental balance.. At the same time, it is also the starting point for caring for others.

In short, we may be so focused on thinking about others, on what will make them happy, that we ignore the requests for our own happiness. Maybe there will come a day when you wake up in the morning and ask yourself, what makes me happy? It is at that precise moment when a light bulb that, without realizing it, was off, turns on, and we realize that we have long forgotten about ourselves. “Maybe it’s time to start thinking about me.”

“Until you value yourself, you won’t value your time. Until you value your time, you won’t do anything with it.”
