The story of Queen Rania: how a young woman from a refugee family won the love of a prince and the world

In the world there are more than 40 monarchies, and it is likely that most people do not know all of them. But the names of some representatives of important dynasties do not leave the pages of newspapers. Among them is the queen consort Rania Al Abdullah. The wife of the King of Jordan has the style, the character, the persuasion and the resources to accomplish anything she desires.

we from awesome.club we learned how Rania found her prince, and the reasons why not only he, but the entire kingdom, loved her.

Young girl running away from the war

The story of Middle Eastern Cinderella began far from the country where she would become Queen Consort. Rania was born in Kuwait City, the capital of Kuwait, in a family formed by a pediatrician father and a housewife mother. The family had resources and invested in their daughter’s education. After finishing school, the girl went to continue her studies in Egypt.

Young Rania could no longer return to her home on the coast of the Persian Gulf. A war broke out in her home country, and her parents fled as refugees to Jordan. From Cairo, the future queen consort went to the Jordanian capital, Amman. The former student was now a mature and ambitious adult. Her first job was in a large country bank, which belonged to the royal family. Afterwards, she went to work at Apple’s local office. As she planned to build her career, another fate awaited her.

Love at first sight

Rania was 21 years old when she found her future husband. An acquaintance invited her to a luncheon, organized by Abdullah II’s sister, and the then prince was also on the guest list. He arrived at the event tired as he had just participated in military exercises, but when he entered the hall he forgot all about it. In his words, Rania’s beauty won him over at first sight.

Abdullah spared no effort in the royal courtship of his new acquaintance: at their meetings they flew in helicopters, water skied and rode powerful motorcycles. At first, the prince was enchanted by Rania’s beauty. But later, one of the friends of the royal couple said that the real attraction was in the fact that both were on the same wavelength. Rania was the monarch’s equal in the way he thought.

At first, Rania was a little afraid of appearing too much in love, but the prince was used to fighting for his goals. After half a year, the question of marriage was already decided. To make the request at the bride’s parents’ house, Abdullah was accompanied by his father, king at the time. In June 1993, the couple prepared for the ceremony, which became a national holiday. The bride’s dress was sewn by designer Bruce Oldfield, who worked with Princess Diana.

From wife to queen consort

The bride’s origins troubled no one: the throne was to be assumed by Abdullah’s uncle, and the prince had not been prepared to handle the burden of state care. He lived at ease with his wife. After 6 years, the King of Jordan changed his mind about passing the throne to his brother, and proclaimed Abdullah as his heir. Two weeks later he became Her Majesty, and at age 28, Rania was given the title of Queen Consort.

Oriental “Queen of Hearts”

Jordan’s first lady’s agenda includes both palatial receptions and visits to poor neighborhoods, so Rania is often compared to Princess Diana.

Wife and Mom with the Coolest Job in the World

The first lady of Jordan believes that her main vocation is to be a wife and mother. The couple raised and educated two sons and two daughters. And to keep up with the younger generation, Rania has read all the Harry Potter books. She also writes, and one of her works has made the list of best sellers from the New York Times. The Queen Consort has always sought to remind her children that they should be kind to those who are less fortunate in life.

The royal family is always in plain sight, but sometimes, as Rania herself admits, they manage to escape the spotlight. And then she, her husband and the kids go on a picnic. The King of Jordan, according to his wife, prefers to relax by diving and discovering the reefs of the Red Sea, then having a barbecue on the beach.

Jordan’s main treasure

Rania is considered by many to be the most beautiful woman in the world and the main muse for Giorgio Armani, and many agree with him. She has also received several other unofficial titles such as Style Icon, World’s Greatest and Most Elegant Beauty and Jacqueline Kennedy of the Middle East. She is also regarded as one of the most influential women on the planet.

She creates her own fashion rules: contrary to what many think about strict prohibitions in the Middle East, she doesn’t just wear closed dresses, and often wears pants and appears with her head uncovered. Rania also communicates openly on the internet. Her instagram page has over 5.5 million followers, and in 2011 Forbes recognized her as the queen of social media.

Mother, wife, queen and still a colonel in the Jordanian army, Rania has always been able to perform contradictory tasks. Perhaps it is no accident that the guiding principle in any situation is to seek a balance between what the heart speaks and what the conscience advises.

Despite the similarity of Rania’s story to Cinderella’s fairy tale, she didn’t fold her arms and just enjoyed the royal life when she became Queen Consort.

And what do you think, for whom life is more complicated: for celebrities who are always in the spotlight or for “normal” people?
