The story of Queen Rania: how a young woman from a refugee family won the love of a prince and the world

The story of Middle Eastern Cinderella began far from the country where she would become Queen Consort. Rania was born in Kuwait City, the capital of Kuwait, in a family formed by a pediatrician father and a housewife mother. The family had resources and invested in their daughter’s education. After finishing school, the girl went to continue her studies in Egypt.

Young Rania could no longer return to her home on the coast of the Persian Gulf. A war broke out in her home country, and her parents fled as refugees to Jordan. From Cairo, the future queen consort went to the Jordanian capital, Amman. The former student was now a mature and ambitious adult. Her first job was in a large country bank, which belonged to the royal family. Afterwards, she went to work at Apple’s local office. As she planned to build her career, another fate awaited her.

Abdullah spared no effort in the royal courtship of his new acquaintance: at their meetings they flew in helicopters, water skied and rode powerful motorcycles. At first, the prince was enchanted by Rania’s beauty. But later, one of the friends of the royal couple said that the real attraction was in the fact that both were on the same wavelength. Rania was the monarch’s equal in the way he thought.

At first, Rania was a little afraid of appearing too much in love, but the prince was used to fighting for his goals. After half a year, the question of marriage was already decided. To make the request at the bride’s parents’ house, Abdullah was accompanied by his father, king at the time. In June 1993, the couple prepared for the ceremony, which became a national holiday. As soon as she became queen consort, she immediately devoted herself to social issues, taking care of schools, hospitals and charitable foundations. For Rania, the best investment is in education. In her words, knowledge, creativity and talent guarantee the success of any country.

Jordan’s first lady’s agenda includes both palatial receptions and visits to poor neighborhoods, so Rania is often compared to Princess Diana.

The first lady of Jordan believes that her main vocation is to be a wife and mother. The couple raised and educated two sons and two daughters. She has also received several other unofficial titles such as Style Icon, World’s Greatest and Most Elegant Beauty and Jacqueline Kennedy of the Middle East. She is also regarded as one of the most influential women on the planet.

She creates her own fashion rules: contrary to what many think about strict prohibitions in the Middle East, she doesn’t just wear closed dresses, and often wears pants and appears with her head uncovered. Rania also communicates openly on the internet. Her instagram page has over 5.5 million followers, and in 2011 Forbes recognized her as the queen of social media.

Mother, wife, queen and still a colonel in the Jordanian army, Rania has always been able to perform contradictory tasks. Perhaps it is no accident that the guiding principle in any situation is to seek a balance between what the heart speaks and what the conscience advises.
