The secrets of 10 world famous monuments

You cannot visit Paris without seeing the Eiffel Tower, being in Rome and not visiting the Colosseum or skipping the visit to the Statue of Liberty if you are in New York. These and other magnificent monuments are known all over the world and visited every day by thousands of people, but do tourists know that these famous constructions, in addition to their beauty, keep some secrets?

At the awesome.club we reveal some of the secret corners in the most touristic places on the planet.

1. The Eiffel Tower

The architect who created this monument, Gustave Eiffel, built his private apartment at the top of the tower. Many people sent letters to Gustave, offering the highest sums to spend a night in that corner, requests that he always refused. Today, tourists can enjoy the best views of the city of Paris 300 meters above the ground.

2. The Statue of Liberty

Until 1916, tourists visiting the Statue of Liberty could also enter the torch section. This area was damaged during World War I attacks, so they decided to close it to the public. Currently, it is only allowed to climb to the crown of the statue. It is also possible to see the torch view through a live webcam.

3. Easter Island Sculptures (Moais)

4. Lincoln Memorial

🇧🇷washington, usa🇧🇷

Today, only a select number of visitors are allowed to use the stairs instead of the elevator to reach the monument. And these people must be escorted by a guide. This is because tourists who climbed the ladder to the top often stopped to paint or carve their names on the monument. Vandalism, it seems, is a worldwide problem.

5. The Coliseum

🇧🇷Rome Italy🇧🇷

This Roman monument has a series of tunnels known as hypogea built under its surface. Until 2010, these secret corridors were closed to the public. Today these places are part of the visit, practically complete that can be done in the Colosseum.

6. Trafalgar Square

🇧🇷London, United Kingdom🇧🇷

Trafalgar Square in London has the smallest police station in the UK. This structure was built in 1926, with the aim that the police could watch the square at all times and control the demonstrators who used to go to Trafalgar Square to protest. Currently, it is used to store cleaning supplies.

7. Empire State Building

🇧🇷New York, USA🇧🇷

German supermodel Toni Garrn posted a photo on her Instagram with the following description: “How lucky I am! I’m on top of the Empire State Building on the 103rd floor!”

The observation deck of the Empire State Building is located on the 102nd floor, however, on the 103rd there is a small room with a balcony, which is accessible exclusively to famous people and dignitaries. Other tourists cannot access this secret corner.

8. Royal Pavilion at Milan Central Station

Mount Rushmore has a secret chamber, where several historical documents are kept, such as: the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution and the Bill of Rights of the United States. In addition, you can also find the biography of Gutzon Borglum, the sculptor of the monument. This chamber is closed to the public.

In the mausoleum you can visit the tombs of the emperor, Shah Jahan, and his wife, Mumtaz Mahal. However, these are not real mausoleums; they are under the monument, at garden level.
