The photographer who captured people on their way to work for 9 years

For 9 years, Danish photographer Peter Funch has been taking pictures of people in New York always in the same places. After a while, he realized that he always saw the same people. That little ritual turned into an amazing project called 42nd and Vanderbilt🇧🇷

O awesome.club was impressed with the result and would like to share some images that convey an enormous sense of deja vu🇧🇷

The photos are from 2007 to 2016 and were taken between 8:30 am and 9:30 am in New York City. By editing them, the photographer discovered how people like to do the same things for many, many years.

Street photos can be really surprising and unpredictable. Most likely, almost none of us realize that day in and day out we do the same thing, eat the same foods, drink coffee in the same place and cut our hair in the same way. Also, some people tend to always wear the same clothes.

Who are these people? Are they sad? Happy? It doesn’t matter. They are people who share the streets with us, they are part of our city and, therefore, of a shared humanity.

They are normal people like any of us, who wake up early and work. Every day they make the same expression. Does this seem weird to you?

Perhaps you might suspect that these two photos were taken a few minutes apart. You are wrong. A few years separate these two very similar photos.

The photographer was really impressed by the same expressions people make every day.

Of course, he had to take thousands and thousands of photos to capture images that were so similar to each other.

This project even allows the creation of stories. Who are the people in the photos? Where are they going?

She is a student? A teacher? Why is she so happy? Is she going or is she coming back?

Clothes are always a personal choice. Steve Jobs, for example, liked to always wear the same clothes and that was his trademark. We don’t know these people. Maybe someday one of them will become famous. It doesn’t matter, what matters is that, deep down, we are all the same. We are here to come and go, every day, always looking for an answer to the big question: who are we?
