The Mercadona oil that scares away moths and perfumes the house

Housework never ends. In all areas, it is always necessary to act for this or that reason. Bathrooms and bedrooms should be cleaned and disinfected regularly to prevent the build-up of bacteria, limescale and bad odours. Likewise, when we do the laundry, we can end up with clothes, towels and sheets that give off unpleasant odors. Finally, and if that were not enough, now that autumn has arrived we will have to be alert to the arrival of insects that will attack our house without hesitation in the cold. However, for all these problems, there is a natural oil that cleans, sanitizes and keeps unwanted insects away.

Clean and scented clothes

The natural oil we are talking about is the fragrant tea tree oil, which we can use in many ways at home. The first of them is to use it as a natural perfumer and sanitizer for clothes in the washing machine. Especially for sports clothing, we can add 5 drops of tea tree oil to the detergent, sanitizing the clothing and giving it a pleasant clean smell. However, before resorting to this remedy, make sure you follow the basic instructions to prevent smelly clothes from coming out of the washing machine.

Tea tree oil is also a great cleaner for household surfaces, including those in the bathroom and kitchen. In a bottle we add 200 ml of warm water, 3 tablespoons of vinegar and 5 drops of essential oil. This detergent is very effective in cleaning cooktops and steel sinks and faucets, leaving a pleasant clean smell. Additionally, this mixture is a good remedy for removing mold stains. Finally, you can also use this oil to clean more delicate surfaces such as wood and marble, but in this case we replace the vinegar with baking soda.

Finally, tea tree oil can be used to keep the insects that are related to it: moths, away from our drawers. Simply put a few drops of essential oil on a microfiber cloth and wipe it inside the drawers to discourage moths from laying their eggs inside. At the end of this operation, we put the clothes back into the drawers with the assurance that the insects will not bother us. To intensify the anti-moth effect, we can add bags of cinnamon sticks, bay leaves and peppercorns to the drawers, in addition to the classic mothballs.
