The magic of first times

What is it about the first times that we all like so much? What will be so special about that first moment that we all long for? What is magical about that tickling in your stomach of not knowing what is going to happen, of facing something new? It’s the magic that hides the first times.

The first job, the first date, the first visit to a new city, the first time we see a movie, all these situations imply a new experience that gives us uncertainty and causes fear, doubt, but also the desire, the surprise and thousands of emotions that accumulate and make our legs tremble as they propel us forward.

When we face something for the first time, we generate a mental plan, we want it to begin, we imagine how it will be, what will happen, what it will bring us and this generates in us an engine that pushes us and motivates us to teach others our best version before the new.

The first times they hide thousands of secret doors, thousands of windows that we do not know, but we open them. If we overcome the first fear that protects us, we overcome barriers and discover new horizons, the first times are full of magic, because even without knowing what is behind it, we go for it with our best tools.

What if we were later faced with the illusion of the first times?

That’s the magic, once we know what will happen at work or when we meet the person we are going to meet or even when we know how the meeting we have today will happen, we lose part of the excitement of the first time. As Rafael Santandreu stated, If we faced situations with the open mind of the first times we could discover something new every daywith the same enthusiasm, desire and strength as when we did it for the first time.

An example of the magic of the first times, as this author states, can be seen, for example, in students who spend an Erasmus season. When the year begins, you find yourself facing a lot of new people, a new city to discover, adventures, everything is good expectations of a year ahead that will be great. On the other hand, as the months go by, part of the unknown becomes known… and the return trip appears as an increasingly closer reality on the horizon.

Leaving aside the experience we may have in places we pass through, the city in which we live every day has corners that we surely do not know, there are thousands of activities that bring you closer to new people or alternative plans. In this sense, if you manage to grasp the magic of the beginning and face the illusion of seeing a new city to discover, the power of the first times will await you every day.

The excitement of the first times is not in the situations, but in the desire that we put into them and the attitude with which we face them.. We build the magic, so why not get up every day and build our first time?

What positive can we take from subsequent times?

Every day hides the magic of not knowing what will happen, but if we go with our eyes focused on what we already know, if we no longer give or expect the best from each day, we will not be able to see the wonder of a new day. We can know how the day will start, but not how it will end.

The first times also hide nerves, fears, doubts, perhaps the subsequent times we have learned from this and we are faced with new emotions and new tools that will make this uncertainty that holds us back minimized and we can continue improving.

Let’s draw a day with new first times, let’s take the positive from the second, Let’s create the magic to live with the illusion of “as if it were the first time”, and let’s do it with the passion of “as if it were the last”. Let’s not let the tickle and smile of uncertainty that every first time entails be lost, even if it is the third, fourth or tenth.
