The key to happiness

Many pursue happiness without realizing that they are letting life slip away. The key to happiness is much closer than you think

The key to happiness is very simple and is closer than you think. It is not about achieving the great goals you desire, or obtaining material goods; that kind of pleasure is instantaneous and fleeting. The true key to happiness, although it may seem like a utopia, is in the little things.

Usually, what we already have we tend to take for granted, we tend to look for something we don’t have to obtain pleasure or avoid pain. Without realizing it, we have been taught that happiness is in things. Continuously, in advertisements and movies, they sell us that those who own more material things are happy, those who have a good car, a good house, the latest designer clothes, etc…

“The key to happiness is in the spiritual balance of loving yourself and loving others.”

-Anonymous-

The key to happiness is not in money

The reality is very far from all that, Although money helps us enjoy more material things and we can feel excitement and enjoyment when using something we like, it is something that does not last for long. For example, you have the latest mobile model that came on the market, the first few months you will enjoy it a lot, but it will be temporary. Afterwards, you will need another model to be satisfied because you will have tired of the one you had and you are not up to date.

The enjoyment of material things is very fleeting. You will never be completely satisfied, you will need more and more. On the other hand, the satisfaction that can be obtained emotionally is not temporary. It has been proven that happiness is in the world of emotions and small details. A rich person, if he does not have good friends or a partner with whom he does well, will be much less happy than someone who is poor with a good social life in which he receives love, support and has a good environment.

“It is not wealth or splendor, but tranquility and occupation that give happiness.”

-Thomas Jefferson-

The importance of sociability

We are social beings by nature and, although some need it more than others, Our happiness will be proportional to the degree of life satisfaction we have. It is paradoxical to meet people who, when they are sad, isolate themselves from the outside world, thinking that they will be sociable again when they solve their personal problems.

Being sociable can help us share our problems with others and find help. How many people with problems take refuge in their good friends and are able to continue with their lives normally? On the other hand, people who are lonelier deal with problems much worse.

We need to connect with others to be happy. Work to surround yourself with good people and enjoy your life sharing it with others. It’s okay if you don’t have a Porsche or a big house, because material things won’t feed your soul. Countless people have sought happiness in material things and, after having it all, they have realized that they felt empty, that life is worth it when you have people who are worth it.

“Success is not the key to happiness, happiness is the key to success.”

-Albert Schweitzer-

In conclusion, Happiness is not achieved with a stroke of luck, but with small things that happen every day. We must look for the key to happiness within ourselves, in our works, in our emotions and in our lives. Because nothing external is going to be able to provide it to us. Do you consider that you are happy for who you are or for what you have? Material things can always be taken from us. But our happiness does not, unless it depends on our possessions.
