The art of living here and now

The art of living in the present, experiencing the here and now in perfect harmony with our interiority and with the environment is one of the great keys to mental health.

The problem arises when reliving the past becomes a habit. and it is done to relieve the discomfort we are feeling in the present moment. In these cases, longing for the old days becomes a way to avoid being here and now.

So, if in difficult moments our mind goes to past events, and we long for what we lost and no longer have, instead of reliving pleasant moments, we would be condemning ourselves to regret and sadness.

Another way to get stuck in the future is to be guided by our expectations, where we anticipate events based on our beliefs and desires about something or someone. For example, believing that our partner has the same projects as us without even having discussed it.

In this case, we could create expectations that our partner wants to marry and start a family with us. But, when we arrive at the moment of truth, we realize that their intentions are different. So, When reality does not match our expectations, when that other person does not behave as we wanted, we usually experience frustration and disappointment.

1. You are much more than the content of your thoughts
