The importance of living in the present moment

Living and valuing the present moment is one of the greatest gifts we can give ourselves. Discover the reasons below.

Living in the present moment is something we are all aware of., but very few of us make it happen due to rush, work, stress and many other factors that make each day like any other. Only when we are sick or faced with an adverse situation are we aware of the here and now, of our present, that which we ignore without realizing it.

But, Sacrificing our present to think about the future prevents us from enjoying the “now.” This “now” that constitutes everything that your life means, where everything positive is contained, all our happiness.

Do not leave for tomorrow what you can do today

One of the best-known proverbs that we may have put into practice on occasion. But how long has it lasted? Probably just a day or two. Rush, stress and the awareness of always thinking about the future prevent us from looking at our present moment. and see what we have achieved so far. They prevent us from enjoying our achievements, forcing us to always look beyond ourselves.

It is true that the present only lasts a moment. A minute that has already passed can be considered past and the minute we are heading towards is our future. Time is ephemeral and it is difficult to savor it.

The curious thing is that We give more importance to our past and our future than to our own present. The one that passes so quickly before our eyes, so much so that we don’t even realize it.

We are used to looking where we are going to step, instead of focusing on our own steps.

This does not mean that we should not think about our past or our future. The past helps us learn and progress; and the future helps us achieve our goals, motivate ourselves and dream of what we want. But where is the present in all this?

Value your present, as well as your past and your future

Avoiding the present is something we do unconsciously. This is how we have been taught and that is why we ignore it without realizing it. But why do we do it? Not living our present makes us idealize the future that we always think about, that future to which we are heading, but that we see as something very far away.

We think of an idealized future almost like a dream that will never be real.

As we already mentioned, the future is that minute, that hour that is yet to come. Thinking about the future as something distant and idealized is an escape route from a present with which we do not feel satisfied..

Why do we think that what is to come will always be better? Because all people think like that, but does it work? Be careful not to idealize that future you think about, perhaps when it arrives you will be surprised by disappointment. Was this all? You will think. Your future will be a disappointing dream that will not satisfy you.

Because after reaching that goal, you will continue thinking about tomorrow and so on. Always trying to see further when you should be seeing the steps you’re takinghow you are truly walking.

What tips should you keep in mind to focus on today and not tomorrow?

If you want to do something, do it now. Whether it’s a trip, changing jobs, turning your life around. Don’t think that tomorrow will be better than now. If you are sure about something, don’t think about it, just do it! Don’t think about what might happen, enjoy what you have now, whatever has to happen, will happen!Be realistic in your present and do not idealize an imaginary future. If you want a future that comes true, you must make it present now.Accept that you are not in control of everything that happens to you.. Many everyday events are beyond your control and that’s okay. Therefore, identify those things that escape your hands and those that do not, once you recognize them, ask yourself: What’s the point of worrying about what I can’t control? And, if you have control, get busy instead of worrying.Meditate. One of the best tools to learn to live in the here and now is meditation. So do not expect more! and turn this activity into a routine.

Would you add any more advice? Think that the summary of all this is that if you want something, make it happen now. Don’t think about whether you could have done it or whether you will do it another day. The present is what counts, Do not allow your life to pass before your eyes without any meaning.

Once you start living in the present moment you will be more aware of the things that are important to you; you will be more compassionate with yourself; You will spend more quality time with those around you, and you will live with purpose.

Therefore, the secret for your life to acquire the meaning you want to give it is to act. Don’t dream if you plan to let life pass you by. The action is what counts, the here and now is what you should think about.
