The blogger who has been writing to her brother in a coma for 13 years

Few things are as strong as family ties. The family does not always have the same opinions and in almost any family there are disagreements, but when a difficult situation arises, they are there to help and support us.

O Incredible.club brings you a sad story, but one that shows the strength of family love. Get to know the story of Bettina Bopp and her brother Itamar, who she affectionately calls Ita. A brotherly love stronger than any medical diagnosis.

In 2005, at the age of 41, Itamar had a heart attack followed by a cardiac arrest that lasted several and interminable minutes. Itamar has been in a coma ever since. And although doctors have few positive predictions about his future, the family still hopes he will return.

A difficult and strong diagnosis that inspired this sister to have an idea: what if she told her day to day, her feelings, the pain of absence in a blog that he would read as soon as he came back from the coma? And it was clinging to this hope that Bettina created the blog and, later, the Facebook page “For when you wake up…”

This time of year is melancholy. This is the time when there should be miracles and portals inside nutshells—and that would explain why they are so difficult to open. … Before supper, we would say a prayer and we would be sure that that moment would forever be kept inside each one, in a safe and sacred place, like a nutshell… Merry Christmas!

“It’s so early, my brother Open your eyes, don’t sleep Spread my soldiers Ruin my toys You can hate me Never look at me again But don’t, don’t do that anymore” Come celebrate, Ita. Today is your day (birthday)🎈

Next, we separate some blog posts, all moving and full of poetry, showing how longing weighs on the sister’s heart, who hopes that Ita wakes up and reads everything. Click on the titles to read each post.

And that’s what life is, dreams that await a fresh start, lives that follow despite setbacks, loved ones who rest in a sleep that can last hours, days, months or even a few long years.

To paraphrase the gaucho writer Caio Abreu: “May the pain be light and may all nostalgia be brief”.
