Test: Do you think outside the box?

In the 20th century, psychologists Ellis Paul Torrance and Joy Paul Guilford studied people’s intellectual abilities and developed a unique system of tests. This method allows assessing the level of intelligence and creativity of individuals. Previously, these types of tests were used in military training and now they can even be found in school grades.

Based on scientific research, the awesome.club invites you to see his way of thinking.

Below you will find 10 images. Watch them and write down what you think you see. If your answer is too obvious, that’s a reason to think a little harder. Each image can have more than one interpretation.

Unlike common psychological tests, this one has no right or wrong answers. Your creativity index indicates how predictable your answers are and how many different options you can come up with.

The average person will probably see a candle in a candlestick here, but it could also be a corkscrew that has a cork stuck in it. Do you think it’s just footprints in a circle? Other people see here a skydiver landing (seen from below). It looks like a compass. But a person with a lot of imagination will see here a hungry bird calling its mother in the nest (seen from above). They look like puddles of water. But in reality it is a giraffe (view from the window on the second floor). At first glance, it looks like nothing. But what if you imagine you are a bear walking along a tree branch? You can only see its paws from below. Have you seen a car tire? Now try to imagine a Mexican with a hat, dancing with open arms (seen from above). Ordinary people see here half a slice of cheese or the imprint of a footprint. But it could also be a train coming out of a tunnel (seen from the front). Do you think it’s just a man’s shirt with a bow tie? Some believe it is a waiter, trapped between the doors of an elevator. Drivers see a speedometer here. Physicists, a barometer. And people with an unusual way of thinking can see a snowman here (seen from above). Many say that “someone is hiding behind something”. But it is more interesting to believe that they are border police with dogs, hiding behind a barricade.

If, for each image, you created:

1–2 answer options: your way of thinking is like that of most people. Or maybe you didn’t take the test seriously and were just too curious to see the answers. If this is your case, you should know that curiosity is closely linked to creativity.

3–5 answer options: if all your answers were varied and you didn’t spend the night thinking about them, congratulations. Your way of thinking is unusual, you have a creative approach to problem solving, and you can move mountains when you want to.

6 or more answer options: nothing can resist their obstinacy. Your creativity is beyond praise and does not fit into stereotypes or clichés. You have our respect!
