Salty, a guide dog who became a hero

Salty is a golden Labrador retriever who starred in one of the most moving episodes during the famous September 11 in New York. Bobby and the force of loyalty

Bobby was a Skye Terrier dog, who became a true legend. His master was John Gray, a night watchman from Edinburgh who adopted him and made him an inseparable friend. However, Gray died of tuberculosis in 1858. He had spent the last years of his life next to the dog and he did not understand what was happening.

It is said that John Gray was buried in Greyfriars Cemetery. Since then, Bobby moved to that place to accompany his master, even beyond the border of life.. This is one of those stories of dogs that remain excited about seeing their owners again, even after they have died. However, Bobby’s case has some special peculiarities.

The locals of the time noticed that the dog did not leave his master’s grave for any reason. They tried to attract him, but he didn’t answer. This went on for 9 years, until an order was issued according to which every unregistered dog would be euthanized. Sir William Chambers paid for Bobby’s registration and made him a necklace engraved with his name, which is still preserved in a museum in Scotland.

Bobby died 14 years after his owner. A tomb was made in his honor and the sculptor William Brodie created a famous life-size statue., which is still preserved in Edinburgh. Since 2000, Bobby’s grave has become a kind of shrine where people go to leave sticks for Bobby to catch. He says on his tombstone: “May your loyalty and devotion be an example to us all.”.
